When built-in mediocrity from the traditional thought-process associated with talent density just won't suffice, you have to hire and develop talent not to just be additive, but multiplicative; and as this article from Harvard Business Review so-eloquently states in doing so, you'd be "galvanizing the company's overall energy to a level of explosive growth, like a nuclear reactor reaching critical mass". To do so, you have to break from the flawed assumption that there's a linear relationship between the number of employees you have and the results that they produce. That's because it's not just the number of people, but the relative "weight" or "density" of that talent that you're hiring (or, thought about differently, developing). Excellent read that highlights some ways to build an organization that is talent-dense: 1) Rethinking the recruiting function, 2) Moving people into jobs that leverage their (unique) strengths, 3) Paying folks at market rates or above.
