On T Level Thursday of National Apprenticeship Week, I’ve been with Make UK members at Leeds City College’s School of Engineering, where there are around sixty 16-18 year olds studying engineering and manufacturing T Levels. Those employers who are engaged with T Levels are finding them a useful way of widening their talent pool and developing a pipeline of future apprentices. We’ve shared more about the potential benefits to manufacturers of taking T Level students on industry placements here: https://lnkd.in/edzQGYbr

A great view on opportunity from Josh. Showing how hard work, correct mindset and career guidance can put you on the right path to success within the construction industry. From Josh’s apprenticeship onto his degree and through to his current role as one of our newest contracts managers #nationalapprenticeshipweek
We're kicking off National Apprenticeship Week by spotlighting one of our Contracts Managers, Josh Peach. After starting out as an apprentice himself, Josh has already supported 44 young apprentices taking their first steps into the construction world. Below, Josh shares his experience of being a young apprentice and some invaluable insight into how it shaped him into the expert he is today. #nationalapprenticeshipweek #NAW2024 #SkillsForLife #apprenticeships

“We need to be addressing this human capital constraint with urgency – with policies to incentivise careers in trades, to incentivise businesses to take on apprenticeships, awareness to promote trades careers to women, incentives to rethink how we get more people into VET Teaching careers.” Earlier today, our Founder and CEO, Katherine McConnell, took part in the ‘Mission Critical - Climate Industry Policy for a Net-Zero Australia’ event hosted by the Electrical Trade Union of Australia. Sharan Burrow chaired the panel discussion with the impressive Prof. Mariana Mazzucato, ACTU President Michelle O’Neil and Katherine. At Brighte, we believe private/public partnerships are an effective way to deliver large-scale schemes. Delivery of large-scale schemes relies on electrical workers installing upgrades in every home, and for this reason, we need to attach workplace outcomes to each project to ensure we have the workforce to deliver at scale.

My son, Alexander, is doing a degree apprenticeship at STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council). He spends 4 days a week getting practical experience in the building he's pointing at below. The other day of the week is spent at university. He's found that he learns a lot more during the apprenticeship side of the course than he does during the 'degree' side. I guess there's nothing like practical experience... The other interesting thing about STFC is that nobody has bloody heard of it! They hold an open day every 5 years and last month, we got to take a tour of their facilities (massive, by the way). What stood out is that there is tons of world-leading research going on here but we never shout about it. Here's some of the cool stuff going on there (I'm well aware I'm butchering some of the scientific info!) -At the Central Laser Facility, high-powered lasers are being used to recreate the conditions inside stars (this can also have environmental, security and medical impacts) -At the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, neutron and muon instruments give unique insights into the properties of different materials on the atomic scale. - At STFC technology, they create key components which are integral in the experiments made on the Large Hadron Collider. And that's probably only half of all the amazing things they're working on over there... Maybe we need to celebrate the work done at amazing research institutions like STFC as much as we celebrate things like raising capital!

It is #nationalapprenticeshipweek 2024 and I'm so proud of our trade apprentices. Since I've join I have seen three qualify and we've created a pipeline with 9 more working toward promising careers in engineering. We have an incredible group of driven young people in engineering and non-engineering roles who are training and working to help us create a #betterworldofwork #apprenticeships #thefuture
This week marks the 2024 National Apprenticeship week. A week where I get to see first hand the real impact an apprenticeship has not only for the apprentices, but the business around them. It was a privilege to see 6 EMCOR UK apprentices based at GSK Stevenage stand before Senior management within EMCOR UK but also our client. No easy task. Each Apprentice gave a clear and concise talk about an area in which they had works. They spoke with conviction and clarity on their subject. At the end of all the presentations 3 Apprentices were presented with a trophy for Outstanding Achievement in 2023. These individuals, Jack, Connor, and Cameron have shown a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to their learning. Keep up the good work! #AbetterWorldAtWork

This week (5th - 11th February) marks National Apprenticeship Week in the UK. As skilled labour shortages plague various industries, apprenticeships could be the solution to provide comprehensive training for new talent. Investing in trainees and apprentices is vital, something Paul Ashton, Managing Director of Powertherm Contract Services, recently touched on: "Currently, our apprentice-to-employee ratio stands at one to six. We recognize the value and significance of the perspectives and insights from our frontline employees." #SkillsForLife #NAW #Training #Development #Energy #EOGMagazine
