One Small Thing vision is a justice system that can recognise, understand, and respond to trauma. Their mission is to redesign the justice system for women and their children, which has led them to open its residential community Hope Street. One Small Thing undertook a briefing process with Heatherwick Design Studio to create a Design Guide to provide an ambitious brief for what the project would achieve and how a trauma informed approach could be integrated. One Small Thing convened an excellent team through a quality-led procurement strategy. They resourced a thorough briefing process to communicate the vision for the project setting an ambitious brief. A collaborative consultation process with the core design team and end users with lived experience of the justice system ensured the project incorporated experience as well as theoretical research. Find out more about One Small Thing and the Hope Street project (entry submitted by Snug Architects ), a finalist in the Client of the Year Category sponsored by CLOCS , and its outcomes. https://buff.ly/4bFbr8s

Mobilising Housing Histories* As a studio working at the forefront of social housing in the UK, understanding of the historic context of the sector is essential. Unearthing exemplars and episodes from the past 150 years and drawing in expert contributors from elsewhere, our Research and Culture lead Mike Althorpe works to ensure housing histories are part of what we do - from learning from typologies, neighbourhoods and places, to charting the policies that have shaped where we are now. Big thank you to Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain for recognising our work in this area and for making Mike an ‘Honorary Historian’ in your recent issue and to Hiba Alobaydi for the opportunity to connect with the hundreds of other researchers and historians doing fantastic work on social housing. Find out more about our work and how history informs our practice in the Architectural Historian Issue 19, November 2024. *after the fantastic book of the same name by Peter Guillery and David Kroll https://lnkd.in/ezZPsZFf

The UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate, in partnership with cityLAB UCLA, the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs Department of Urban Planning, the UCLA Architecture and Urban Design, and the UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies , invite you to “Housing the Just City: How Urban Design Can Contribute to a More Affordable and Inclusive City” – a weekly speaker series that aims to investigate the interplay of affordable and accessible housing, the built environment of cities, the policies that advance equitable, inclusive neighborhoods, the architecture of collective living, and the role of urban design. Recent tragedies have placed housing justice at the forefront of political agendas across the nation once again. Housing affordability is not only an economic challenge; it is a significant social challenge. This series explores these themes and aims to reshape the contours of the conversations about housing, urban design, cities and regions. Come join the conversation every Thursday from 12:30 - 1:50pm this Winter Quarter either virtually via Zoom or in-person at the UCLA Public Affairs Building Room 4320A (on 2/6 and 2/27, it will be in Room 4240A). Hope to see you there! Zoom link for all talks: https://lnkd.in/dhMckN-v
