I feel inspired by my former colleagues, Dora Buitrago Daza Liz Méndez Betty Martínez Maria Paulina Garcia Botero, who have been very active in bulding a new community to empower other women in Colombia. They are true examples on how we can help each other to make our workplakce more diverse. Women in Tech?Colombia Creating an inclusive job environment is crucial for promoting diversity and ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected in the workplace. Here are some strategies that can help promote women's inclusion in the tech industry: 1. Establish a mentorship program: Mentorship programs can be an effective way to support women in tech and help them develop their skills and expertise. By pairing experienced professionals with women who are just starting out in the industry, you can provide guidance, support, and encouragement. 2. Encourage networking: Networking is essential for building relationships, sharing knowledge, and advancing careers. Encourage women in your organization to attend industry events, join professional organizations, and connect with other women in tech. 3. Provide training and development opportunities: Women in tech may face unique challenges and barriers, so it's important to provide training and development opportunities that address these issues. This can include workshops on leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as technical training and certification programs. 4. Join us today for a Women in Tech Round Table, an empowering discussion dedicated to celebrating International Women's Day! ? In The Tech Talent Charter's latest report on "Diversity in Tech," they shared the following insights: We must continue working together to promote more gender diversity in Tech and, in turn, more diversity of thought.? ? ?? 29% of tech employees are women or non-binary. ??The proportion of women in senior tech roles is just 21% (- 8 points compared to tech employees across all tech job disciplines, and has dropped by a percent compared to last year). ??1 in 3 women are planning to leave their tech job. ??Just 20% of software engineers are women, down by a third compared to tech roles. ??Just 50% of neurodivergent women in tech have told their manager they are neurodivergent (it's 69% for neurodivergent men). ? I am thrilled to announce the launch of Thryving Women in Tech! ?? Why and What is this About? As someone deeply immersed in tech recruitment, I've been struck by the significant gender gap in the industry. Despite countless conversations with industry leaders, we still struggle to bridge this divide. The tech industry is expanding rapidly, but the inclusion of women isn't keeping pace. Thryving Women in Tech is here to change that. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment that amplifies opportunities for women in technology, supporting their career growth every step of the way. True progress only happens when everyone is included. My drive to champion inclusivity stems from growing up with deaf immigrant parents. I’ve seen how easily talent can be overlooked due to misconceptions and barriers. This personal experience fuels my passion for creating spaces where everyone can shine, no matter the obstacles they face. Working in tech recruitment, I’ve witnessed the stark gender gap and the missed potential it represents. The industry doesn’t just need women; it craves their creativity, insight, and innovation. Through Thryving Women in Tech, I aim to shake things up and encourage more women to join and thrive in tech. I am excited to work with my co-founders Eavie Mickley, Francia Street, and Julien Bardou to make this vision a reality. Now, the real work begins! After years in the industry, I remain a strong advocate of greater diversity within tech. While I've observed change, the question remains: is it enough? Are we doing enough to encourage more women to join the fight of closing the skills gap? At The Software Institute, we're focused on getting the right balance. As we expand locally in Australia, I would personally love to build a cohort team of women working in #cyber or #observability. The benefits of a well-balanced and diverse workforce speak for themselves, but let's take a few moments to recap. In the rapidly evolving world of technology, the role of women is not just beneficial; it's imperative. Diversity in tech teams, especially the inclusion of women, drives unparalleled innovation and creativity.
