#NewPublicationDRC #YPS Young women peacebuilders took the front row and forged strategic partnerships and alliances with public officials, decision-makers, and politicians to institutionalize the implementation of the YPS agenda in the DRC through direct advocacy meetings with the minister of youth and the participation of youth minister advisors in their YPS information sharing sessions. However, those approaches have let them face sexist arguments accusing them of being “too close” to politicians, which is not “culturally well seen or appropriate” in a patriarchal society, hoping to see young women seated at the backstage table and not assuming leadership roles. They have navigated informal, highly gendered discourses reproduced by normalised hierarchical imbalances, becoming impervious to change as a result, hence the necessity at some points to overhaul the organisational culture of different ministers intersecting with the YPS agenda in the DRC (Page 9) Read more ?? https://lnkd.in/gg8_6qhi UNICEF in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Cordaid Cordaid RDC Damien Mama United Nations UN Women Joao Felipe Scarpelini Felipe Paullier Olivera African Union

Honouring the women of South Africa and the African continent. ?? Happy South African National Women's Day, 9 August 2024. ???? ?? As we commemorate 30 years of democracy since the birth of the democratic dispensation in 1994, we remain forever indebted to, inspired and motivated by the heroism and bravery of the more than 20 000 South African women, who marched to the Union Building on this day in 1956 to petition against apartheid pass laws enforced under the now repealed Population Registry Act. ?? The Act represented one the apartheid state's instruments through which to enforce and administer segregationist policies, by requiring black South Africans to carry an internal passbook, that served to maintain population segregation, control?urbanisation, and manage migrant labour during the?apartheid era and regime. ?? The freedom and democracy enjoyed by all South Africans today, are in part due to leadership and advocacy of the women of 1956 and multitudes more who have and continue to strive for women's rights, recognition, emancipation, freedom, equality, protection, empowerment and transformation in South Africa, the African continent and across the world. ? At ETHICORE we recognise and are committed to realising the importance of mainstreaming women's socio-economic status and considerations into evidence based advocacy for public policy, legislation and regulation. ???? We SALUTE YOU ! #NationalWomensDay #WomensDay #SouthAfrica #RSA #SA #ZA #Democracy #ETHICORE #PanAfrica #Africa #WomensRights #WomensEquality #Advocacy #PublicPolicy #Lobbying #GovernmentRelations

Why we need to listen to women:
Across the world, women remain underrepresented in decision-making roles--whether in politics, economic participation or peace processes. Despite their right to equal participation, women face numerous barriers that limit their voices in both private and public spheres. Our new reports, developed with Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre and Baghdad Women's Association, focus on the barriers to women's participation in Plateau State, Nigeria, and Iraq. These reports highlight the challenges women face in a context of conflict and shrinking civic space and offer actionable steps to enhance women's meaningful participation in the decisions that shape their lives. In 2021, PBI The Netherlands, Cordaid and WO=MEN, Dutch Gender Platform published the Recommendations for the Protection of Women Human Rights Defenders, offering practical strategies for diplomatic missions. These recommendations have been recently reviewed, resulting in a concise summary of key findings, challenges, and updated recommendations. These insights were highlighted at the recent Afrikadag 2024 event. The panel discussion underscored the importance of advancing gender-responsive support. The photo shows the moderator Kiza Magendane (left) with speakers Tsano (human rights defender from Zimbabwe), Sabina Atzei (Cordaid), and Marit Maij (MEP) at the panel discussion on Women Human Rights Defenders at Afrikadag 2024. Today marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This year, there is a specific emphasis laid on the #BeijingDeclaration adopted almost 30 years ago. I and my team at Stand to End Rape (STER) Initiative have been working on a project which is funded by the German Embassy, to amplify the voices of women and increase female participation in politics. We firmly believe that the equal representation of women will lead to more gender sensitive policy that will benefit all scope of women’s rights, representation and resources. We also know that this initiative can work in Nigeria as other African countries have done the same and some states like Kwara State have achieved some milestones in this area. However, we need the government to take actionable steps to make a constitutional amendment so that all states must be mandated to uphold a gender quota. Join our initiative today by signing the petition to demand accountability from the Nigerian Government to meet up with the Beijing Declaration by creating Special Seats for women in the National and State Assemblies. Sign the petition here: https://lnkd.in/dmJPDfQ5 #16daysofactivism #SGBV #GBV #Nigeria #ConstitutionalAmendment
