Flying Free means that as an Accessible Travel Advisor, I can book travel for my clients and myself knowing our medical equipment arrives at my destination in the same condition it left us at check-in or the airplane door. Flying Free means that the airlines with assistance from their government take responsibility to TRAIN and HIRE handlers to work with accessible travelers. Airport third party handlers are not equipped to work with our community. Now back to scheduled programmes… ???? I have to share this video and this man’s beliefs around the issues of Race. The mindset is exactly why we have so much discourse and conversations on #Race and #Skincolour and its weaponisation. He is creating a victim mentality when his privileges appear to be revoked; he appears to have no comprehension of the wider benefits of #inclusion and #Equity and that it is not exclusively bestowed to White People but to the Human Race. Now we can all, myself included have from our own perspective opinions that without #context or accuracy perpetuate beliefs that are tainted in misinformation and are outdated. It is very easy to align with ideas and values that hold a privilege we never want to loose. Be that gateways to accessing of resources/investment, the gate keeping of opportunities for ourselves or maintaining exclusivity to a membership of people that enhances our own resources. The issues surrounding Race and rights to access for all #Humanbeings is the one conversation that evokes the most passion from those that race and skin colour never precludes from living their everyday lives. The grunts of ‘Its always about race’ is a regular grumble from those fragile to discuss the obvious which continues to impact the lives of many. The Black and White issue far outdates the progress of change we should be seeing in the current. As such I will always align with what’s right and just, I will continue to open doors for those who look like me and it never means I exclude those who may not experience the same battles but are critical friends, allies and supporters for #change. To build inclusion we have to first recognise others when they are not in the room, when the warm culture, travel, food, fashion and so much more is enjoyed but the people are not included , we need to adjust the script with greater #awareness and Greater #enthusiasm. We have to do better and we know better. Pity this man feels so aggrieved as it’s much bigger than he wants to acknowledge. It’s #systemic and greater than what he knows and expresses. When we talk about people with disabilities, it's crucial to remember they are not objects of inspiration simply because of their disability. They are individuals—like everyone else—living their lives to the best of their ability. Moreover, many of the barriers they face aren't just due to their disability but are compounded by the intersection of their identities—whether it’s race, gender, socioeconomic status, or sexuality. These intersecting factors often create additional layers of challenges that we must recognise and address. It’s time to shift the narrative from seeing people with disabilities as extraordinary for doing everyday things to understanding the complexities they navigate. Let's focus on creating inclusive environments where everyone can thrive, not placing people with disabilities on a pedestal for simply living their lives.
