Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. From breaking barriers to shaping the future, #WomenInSTEM continue to inspire generations. Swipe through to read powerful words from #WomenInScience who paved the way for a more inclusive and innovative world.
Women like Marie Sk?odowska Curie are not only pioneers but an example of how tough women had to be at that time especially in science. I only ask you as a Polish woman to honour her surname. Her name was Maria Sk?odowska-Curie, and although she was proud to be married, she kept both surnames.
World Health Organization Marie Curie’s words remain a powerful inspiration! At a time when few women had role models or advocates, she forged her own path, showing us that we must become the trailblazers we seek. Her legacy is especially relevant to WEMatter’s women on the move—women who relocate to new cities and countries, take bold risks for growth, navigate multilayered challenges, and make strategic trade-offs to create new possibilities, shape their futures, and redefine success on their own terms. Her story reminds us that we are the change we’ve been waiting for.
Marie Curie was a true pioneer, and we honor her legacy through the Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) - the European Union’s reference programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training.? ? Today, incredible women continue to push the boundaries of science — like our EU-funded research project NanoGlue, making breakthroughs in breast cancer treatment. Marie Curie paved the way for women in science, and through Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, we continue to support brilliant researchers pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Today, we celebrate all their achievements and the impact they create! ??

Happy females of science day everyone. And best to Marie Curie that made today's holiday possible. I remember writing many papers on her my senior year in high school, when library research was the only source of information, and she is most known for being French, which was her second citizenship as an adult, but Curie's ethnicity of nationality was Polish, her first citizenship, born and raised in Poland. And as an honor to the first chemical element she discovered, Curie called it Polonium, derived from the word Poland. She lived to only 66 years, and her passing was likely from the years of exposure to radiation from her studies. Curie's parents were both teachers, her father an instructor in mathematics and physics. She was a tutor to students in Warsaw, and early years with her family had many financial misfortunes with unlucky investments made by her parents, and proud nationalism fights against Russia to bring back Poland's independence, so Curie's family, originally named Sklodowski, was a constant target from the overruling government, where jobs and opportunities were being taken away by discriminating against them, but eventually Curie traveled to Paris, married Pierre Curie, and made her scientific discoveries. ?? ??
