Giving to endowments plays a huge role in determining which nonprofits thrive and which ones continue to struggle, year to year, to make their budgets work. Given the recent advocacy by Bridgespan, Schott Foundation, and others to think of giving to endowments as a potentially powerful equity tool, and with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we set out to benchmark the state of foundation giving to endowments. How common is it? What criteria is used for determining what nonprofits get endowment gifts? Is equity a consideration? Our new report, by my colleagues Elisha Smith Arrillaga, Ph.D., Christina Im, and Emily Yang, is out today. https://lnkd.in/e4xdbyHG
