Snr Chief Lead Manager of Operations? What’s in a title and what do they truly signify? It’s no secret that title inflation has crept up in recent years, and the allure can easily overshadow the substance carried. However, I strongly believe the weight in which they hold can be minimal and out of balance for many seeking a new opportunity. Brand integrity needs to be paramount on hiring managers minds when considering adding a Snr or Lead to the front of a title. And for candidates seeking that new role, ask yourself what comes with that title? - Increased expectations and weight on your shoulders - Team management - Salary - Client engagement - Nothing…. Just a thought. An important one. One which I question. A hospitality colleague of mine asked me a question today after being told they lost an opportunity to someone that had years ahead of them. Why are the corporate folks afraid of hiring "first time" anything? "Why do corporate folks celebrate a facade of growing people when they constantly after each posting, post for executive property level positions, such as GM, AGM, DOO, they hire people who have had those jobs for 5-10-15 years?" "Have the area and regional managers become complacent, overwhelmed, overworked that they pretend there are no future generations that they can bet on?" "Why can not I not become the next best thing for this organization given my track record and commitment?" So the question I begin to ask, when is it time? When is it time to grow the next generation? When is it the next time to grow the next general manager? When is is the next time to bet on the next guy? I simply answered, "I do not know". Is it easier to hire someone with so much experience that the thought of someone with new ideas and perspectives is irrelevant? #realitycheck #opportunity #hardwork #Hotellife #Hotels #BeReal #Giveachance #bet #on #somebody #lazy
