?? What We Can Learn About Community from "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" ?? On this eve of Halloween, I'm reminded of the classic "The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"—a story that's more than just a holiday tradition; it’s a parable about community, belief, and the power of engagement. In the story, Linus passionately believes in the Great Pumpkin and dedicates his Halloween night to waiting in the pumpkin patch. While the world may not share his vision, he finds support and companionship with Sally. This small community, bound by shared experience and belief, creates a meaningful bond that transcends the outcome. Here's what associations can take from Linus's dedication: ?? Belief Creates Engagement: Linus’s belief, even when unpopular, inspires curiosity and commitment. Associations thrive when they foster a shared purpose and empower their members to engage fully, creating a community that believes in a shared vision. ?? Community is Built Through Shared Experiences: Just as Linus and Sally find comfort together in the pumpkin patch, association members build stronger relationships through shared challenges and experiences. It’s these individual moments that solidify the community. ?? Memorable Moments Bring Resilience: Just as Charlie Brown’s "All I got was a rock" moment became a classic, associations can turn unexpected or disappointing experiences into memorable, bonding moments. Not every engagement will lead to immediate success, but shared stories—good and bad—build a resilient and close-knit community. Sometimes, the moments that don’t go as planned bring people together the most. As we celebrate Halloween, let’s remember the importance of community and engagement. Together, our associations can foster spaces where belief and connection grow—no matter the outcome. ?? Happy Halloween! ?? #Community #Engagement #Associations #Halloween #TheGreatPumpkin #CharlieBrown

My family made plans to attend a tree lighting event over the Thanksgiving holiday. As the parent of young children, I work hard to create holiday magic. I work hard to find fun community events and give my kids the opportunity to join in different types of experiences. As a parent of young children, I love doing it all. I want to do it all. However, at the same time, as a caregiving family with a medically-complex child, I also experience how deeply challenging it is to do it all. It is extremely hard work to bring our child to community events. It is difficult to foresee and attempt to plan for the unknown variables that arise when venturing into the public domain Lack of physical accessibility is often a challenge. Lack of accommodations that support our kids with disabilities is another. The risk of exposure to cold and flu viruses, which will surely land our child in the hospital, if not in a critical state, leaves caregivers constantly balancing between giving their kids the experience of childhood while protecting them from the common seasonal illnesses that present exceptional risk. So, while other families happily pile out of cars and crowd around Christmas trees, their kids gleefully waiting Santa's arrival, we stand apart from the crowd, along the edges of the public events, present but still outsiders in our own communities. Because we want to be there, but it is complicated.... So, what can we all do? ? Ensure accessible routes to holiday events and get-togethers ? Consider the venue set up, keeping in mind that some families must be extra vigilant during cold and flu season ? If you are planning a community event, seek input from caregiving families during the planning phase ? If possible, move some of your activities outdoors to engage families unable to comfortably participate indoors ? Make an effort to reach out to the families standing at the edge of your events. Make room for them to participate, both physically and in spirit. All kids deserve to experience as much holiday joy as we can muster, and we can all play a part in cultivating that within our communities. #caregiving #holidays #inclusion #parenting #community https://lnkd.in/g9ZeF6CX

Let's look back at the chat with Tammy Tantilla on Thriving Together – it got me thinking about something pretty cool. Tammy was talking about treating our families like we treat our favorite things, like when we're crazy about a new restaurant. So, what if we were just as excited about the awesome stuff our partners and kids do? Tammy suggested being a fan in a big, real way. You know, not just saying we like them but really showing it in what we do. It made me realize how important it is to tell our loved ones we appreciate them. It's like when we really love a band, we don't keep it to ourselves – we tell everyone! Tammy's idea is kinda like that, but for our families. Imagine being the loudest cheerleader for your partner's good deeds or your kids' achievements – that's the vibe. Tammy made me think that it's not just nice words, it's about making our families feel special every day. Being a fan isn't just for fun, it makes our connections stronger. When we celebrate each other, it builds a super positive atmosphere at home. So, let's try being the biggest fans of our families – not just thinking it but showing it every day. Let our homes be full of cheers for each other! ???? ???? ?????????? ????????????????, ????????????, ????????????????????, ???????????????????? ?????????????????????????? ???????? ???????? ????????? https://lnkd.in/eXfg28gQ

Indeed as Bob said, real estate is an information and relationship business! Bob has been an iconic figure in commercial real estate; especially as one of founders of Massey Knakal, a specialized renovative boutique brokerage firm that dominated the $5M-$20M markets in NYC CRE for decades. At the time, it was the sweet spot for my targeted clientele. As the commercial real estate markets have shifted, our team had to adapt to the changing political and economic environment, to refocus ourselves. What’s the next, has been a question for most of us in this field. As an old Chinese saying: 时势造英雄-changing means opportunities! We will see, stay tuned… #realestatetips #realestatetrends #CRE #commercialrealestate #luxuryhomes #development #invest #challenge #change #opportunity
Just a few words on what’s been happening over the last week. ? One thing I want to make clear: I appreciate all of you. ? Your calls, texts, messages, & DMs of encouragement have been incredible. I could not ask to be part of a greater community.? ? Thank you. #nycrealestate

YMCAs...Keeping Halloween Safe AND Fun For Families Trunks, Treats, and Total Peace of Mind Across the U.S., YMCAs are more than fitness centers—they’re community hubs. This Halloween, many are hosting Trunk-or-Treat events, where families gather in decorated parking lots to enjoy a safe, fun night. Parents, kids, and neighbors come together to celebrate in a secure space without the traffic concerns of traditional trick-or-treating. Started in the '90s, Trunk-or-Treat has grown into a beloved tradition. With cars decked out for the occasion, kids can wander among superheroes, princesses, and ghosts to collect treats without worrying about busy streets. The YMCA makes it easy for families to celebrate together while putting safety first. Beyond Halloween, YMCAs serve communities year-round.? It is why it’s our mission to help Ys leverage their real estate to align with community needs, empowering them to evolve facilities, increase memberships, and stay financially sustainable. For an organization with 180 years of impact, it's a powerful way to expand and continue serving the communities who count on them. #TrunkOrTreat?#YMCA #CommunityBuilding #HalloweenSafety #FamilyFun #BuildingStrongerCommunities #Gro #GroDev

Happy National Good Neighbor Day! To celebrate one of our favorite days, we’re sharing tips to help you spread kindness and build lasting connections in your community. ? Initiate Community Get-Togethers: Start a walking or biking club, set up a play date at the local park for the kids in the community or organize a block party. These activities provide great opportunities to meet your neighbors or make a new friend. ? ?? Be a Helping Hand: Small acts of kindness go a long way in establishing trust and appreciation between neighbors.? ? ?? Start a Little Free Library: Little Free Libraries are small boxes that can be placed in your front yard or community spaces within your neighborhood. Encourage your neighbors to take a book, leave a book for all to enjoy. ? ?? Share Your Bounty: If you garden, bake or love to cook, consider sharing those skills with your fellow neighbors. ? ?? Celebrate the Holidays: Whether it’s a Halloween trunk-or-treat or even a neighborhood Friendsgiving, holidays provide plenty of opportunity to gather your neighbors and create lasting memories.?#ThisisTMLiving

Storytime! Imagine you’ve been invited to the party of the season! You’re so excited. After counting the days down, you’re finally outside, ready to make your grand entrance. You’re ready to mingle like a Pringle and dance the night away. You’re about to step in, but out of nowhere, boom! A barrier blocks your entrance. You can’t get in. A barrier is physically stopping you. You try the back door, but the same thing happens. You think about climbing through a window but remember the last time you did that, you broke your sister’s Westlife CD and hurt yourself in the process. No matter how hard you try, you just can’t get in. You start asking people for help, but they just smile and walk on by, there’s no barrier stopping them. You try again, and this person is a bit more sympathetic, promising to get help once they’re inside. You’re thankful and super grateful that someone actually stopped to listen. And off they pop, inside to get help. Only help doesn’t come. You sit there waiting and waiting, but no one comes. You start asking more people this time, more desperately. Yet, people continue to make empty promises to send help, or they just blank you. No matter how much you scream or shout for help, it doesn’t come. You feel angry. You feel embarrassed. You feel frustrated. The party you were once excited to attend has turned into you being left on the outside, looking in. That is what it feels like to encounter an inaccessible barrier. That is what it feels like to be excluded. That is what it can feel like to be Disabled By Society. Only, it’s not just a party. It’s workplaces, products, services, content, environments, events, it’s our everyday. Image Description: A Disabled By Society quote graphic. Set on a dark background with colourful blocks running parallel along the top and bottom of the page. A quote centred reads, "The story of inaccessibility is one we hear all too often, but have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the main character in that story?” #WednesdayWisdon #DisabledBySociety #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion
