#datadrivendecisions The beer diaper story- Came across this case of association rule mining based on data trend and the possible strategies to build sales For many data analysts, correlation refers to any statistical relationship, whether causal or not, between two random variables or bivariate data. However, time-honored principle of statistics remains true: correlation does not imply causation. Case: In a small town, there was a Walmart that had a very interesting pattern in its sales data. During fridays, the store’s diaper sales and beer sales would spike. Intrigued, the manager decided to investigate further. He observed the shopping patterns of customers who bought diapers and found that they often purchased beer at the same time. Curious about the connection, he conducted a little experiment. On a particularly busy Friday evening, he made a special display near the beer section with a promotion on diapers. Sure enough, diaper sales soared, especially among the shoppers who also bought beer. The manager was puzzled. Why would people buying diapers also be buying beer, and why was this trend so consistent? The manager shared his findings with a few colleagues and they speculated about various theories. One popular theory was that the diapers were purchased by men on Friday evenings while returning from work for the weekend requirement of the infants. Along with the diapers they would pick along beer for the weekend. The beer, in this case, was a bit of self-reward for the men while handling diaper purchase duties. The story of the Walmart beer and diaper connection spread through the town and beyond, becoming a funny anecdote about consumer behavior. It served as an amusing example of how sometimes patterns in shopping data can reveal surprising insights into people’s lives and habits. The story might vary in different retellings, but it always highlights how unexpected connections in data can lead to intriguing and often humorous discoveries. Possible Strategies based on this case would be 1. Placing the beer shelve in proximity to the diaper shelve as a form of subliminal messaging and also to improve cross sales 2. Offering combo deals like a certain discount on beers which the store manager had made for purchase of diapers Such strategies may lead to increased sales in both beers and diapers

Our biggest national campaign is the Great New Zealand Toastie Takeover powered by McClure's Pickles! New from me: Nearly two-fifths of Americans said in a recent survey that they're planning to drink less this year. Major beer brewers are responding by shifting tons of ad spend into their low and no alcohol beers. Some 38.8% of the $1.3 billion the US beer category spent on advertising last year was devoted to light and low-alcohol beer and ale, up from 31.5% in 2022, and 28.3% in 2021, according to Vivvix, a MediaRadar company. No longer is alcohol-free beer marketing just for events like Dry January and Sober October. You'll see 0% alcohol beers being heavily promoted at sporting events the whole year round, including F1 and the Olympics. Louis Cheskin was a marketing GENIUS. Here's how he helped Pearl Beer win back market share from Coors and Anheuser Busch. In the 1950s, Pearl Beer was struggling to stand out in a crowded market. Sales were declining, and the company needed a fresh approach to attract customers. They turned to Louis Cheskin, a marketing genius known for his unconventional ideas. Cheskin understood that people often make decisions based on what they see rather than just what they hear. He believed that if you could make a product look appealing, people would be more likely to buy it. When he looked at Pearl Beer, he noticed that the product itself was good, but the packaging and marketing weren’t doing enough to catch people’s attention. One of Cheskin's big ideas was to focus on the image of the beer bottle.
