Big wineries or small wineries: which produce better wines? The quality of wine isn't determined by the size of the winery but rather by factors like the winemaker's skill, philosophy of the winemaker, the quality of the grapes, and winemaking practices. Larger wineries may have more resources for consistent quality control, while smaller wineries can offer unique, artisanal products. Ultimately, both big and small wineries can produce excellent wines, depending on these factors.

Chilean Wines Boundaries Agapes By Garces Silva Sometimes, you stumble upon hidden gems right in front of you. In my case, this wine was a true lucky find. It’s a special wine, produced in small batches of just 1,100 bottles (70cl). The grape variety is 100% Sauvignon blanc from Leyda and San Antonio. But what really sets this wine apart is how it’s made. They barrel-age it and use the Solera system to add complexity and character. Give this wine a rich, intense gold color with notes of oxidation and oak. It’s smooth and well-structured, the wine remind to a “Jerez” but it’s made right here in Chile, at a unique vineyard that’s always pushing the boundaries of cool-climate wines.

Wine labels: A foreign language or a treasure map? ??? Here’s a quick breakdown of common label terms: ?? Vintage: The year the grapes were harvested. Older doesn't always mean better! ?? Varietal: The type of grape. Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay... ring any bells? ?? Appellation: Where the grapes were grown. Think Bordeaux, Napa Valley, or Judean Hills. ?? ABV: Alcohol By Volume. Higher doesn't always mean higher quality! ??? Estate Bottled: Means the winery grew the grapes and made the wine on their property. ??♂? Reserve: Can mean... well, almost anything. It's not a regulated term! Did you know what all these meant? What's the most confusing term you've seen on a wine label?

Texas winemakers are tough, adapting to everything from hailstorms to scorching heat, and they still manage to produce some seriously award-winning wines. With over 800 wineries and 11,000 acres of vineyards, these winemakers have had to get creative. They use techniques like hail nets, wider vine spacing, and even advanced technologies like cryo-maceration to handle the state’s unpredictable weather. Wineries like Duchman, Spicewood, Bending Branch, and Pedernales are thriving, racking up medals despite the challenges. They grow over 70 different grape varieties, and there’s no single "signature grape" because the state is just too big and diverse. If you can’t make it out to the vineyards, check out Re, a cool wine bar in San Antonio that only serves Texas wines on tap. It's a fun way to sample the state's best, and learn a bit about its long wine history too. Read the article by Liz Thach, MW: https://zurl.co/I0nk

Other states, other wines We have already discussed the most important wine regions of North America; from New York, Oregon, Washington to California. But wine is made in almost all US states. Let's review the other states and their wines. Cross-border Idaho As we already touched on in Oregon's Cross-Border Wines, Idaho does not have an AVA that is entirely within its own borders. Snake River Valley is partly located in Oregon, but also the other appellation Lewis Clark Valley AVA for wines is partly located in one of the other states, Washington. This is the third appellation in Idaho, after Snake River Valley and Eagle Foothills, and was recognized in 2016. It extends along the courses of the Clearwater and Snake rivers. Of the 124,000 hectares allocated as an appellation, only 40 hectares have been planted. Due to the lower hills of the river area, it is warmer here in the summer. In winter it can go down to -20C, making frost damage a real risk. https://lnkd.in/e4phWBxC

The development process for our Larus barrels was originally aimed at creating a barrel that was specifically suited to short-aged white wines, while minimizing barrel taint, but still providing all the benefits of the new barrel use for the wine. The result? Not only perfectly suited to white wines, but also produces excellent results with low tannin, moderate alcohol reds like Pinot Noir and Kadarka. The global success of Larus barrels proves that this particular type of barrel adapts extremely well to different wine styles and works particularly well for Pinot Noir producers. In this way, Larus barrels help to preserve the delicate aromas and elegance of the wines, while adding a little extra complexity and structure without overpowering the natural character of the wine. With Larus barrels, Pinot Noir can be taken to a new level. Get a quote today! https://lnkd.in/dcAYHiPk? Hi everyone - this week, let's travel further east of Napa and turn our attention to one of the smaller sub-AVAs: Wild Horse Valley. If you've never heard of Wild Horse Valley, it's?because there aren't a lot of wines made there. Sitting above the fog line, this is the coolest of all the AVAs and benefits from its proximity to San Pablo Bay. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do well, and?tend to have higher acidity do to the higher elevation. The fruit is mainly sold to other wineries. Situated?on the edge of this AVA, Kenzo, is the closest winery that I can recommend - with a caveat. Pre-2020 wines from Kenzo were made by "the first lady of wine"?Heidi Barrett. Those wines were fantastic. Unfortunately, per Wine Searcher,?Heidi left Kenzo in 2022 over a dispute with the owners over releasing their 2020 reds, which she felt may have been impacted by smoke from?the Glass fire. She wanted to make it clear that she did not make those wines. Marc Nanes, was Heidi's assistant and?has taken over winemaking duties. Hopefully, he can continue their legacy of great wines. Insider Tip: If you see 2020 Napa reds on store shelves it's best to steer clear unless you can ensure the grapes were harvested before the Glass fire on Sept 27th, or they weren't subjected to?the smoke.? #wealthandwine #financeandvino #financialadvisor
