Jonathan Schneider is featured in an S&P Global Market Intelligence article commenting on a recently unveiled supplemental cost containment proposal from a coalition of power sector groups. They are urging #FERC to adopt the proposal ahead of the agency's highly anticipated rule regarding long-range transmission planning and cost allocation. Jonathan was involved in the development of the proposal, which specifically addresses the period in which a project is selected based on a consideration of benefits and costs, but the project has yet to start construction. He says, "Acquiring land can take a very long time. It's pretty clear that in the course of those years, the assumptions on which major projects in the billions of dollars are planned — those assumptions may change meaningfully." #Energy #Transmission #TranmissionPlanning #PublicPower

?? Exciting News Alert! ?? I'm thrilled to share some important insights with you, brought to you by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com! ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) has recently announced some significant developments regarding the reliability of its system. In a recent market notice, ERCOT revealed its plans to conduct a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Must-Run Alternatives (MRAs). Why is this happening? Well, it all stems from a reliability analysis conducted by ERCOT, which identified a pressing need to address performance deficiencies related to three CPS Energy Generation Resources. These resources, namely BRAUNIG_VHB1, BRAUNIG_VHB2, and BRAUNIG_VHB3, have submitted Notifications of Suspension of Operations (NSOs), indicating their intention to suspend operations indefinitely as of March 31, 2025. The total summer Seasonal Net Max Sustainable Ratings of these Generation Resources amount to 859 MW. ERCOT's reliability analysis determined that these resources are crucial for maintaining the reliability of the ERCOT System, as outlined in ERCOT Protocols Section 3.14.1.2. To address this need while ensuring cost-effectiveness, ERCOT has decided to issue an RFP for Must-Run Alternatives. This RFP aims to explore alternatives that are more economically viable than entering into a Reliability Must Run (RMR) agreement for these Generation Resources. ERCOT emphasizes the importance of carefully evaluating the costs and benefits of any service agreement regarding the support of ERCOT System reliability. This decision reflects ERCOT's commitment to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the Texas electricity market. Stay tuned for further updates on this important development, and a big thank you to VertexOne for bringing this vital information to our attention! #ERCOT #EnergyNews #ElectricityMarket #MustRunAlternatives #Reliability #EnergyIndustry #VertexOne

Did you know in the last 4 years energy prices have increased by 70% in CA, 40% in NY and 20% in Florida, TX and Georgia. Utility rates have increased in all but 2 states (Wyoming and North Dakota). Why is this? A primary challenge is a constrained grid to efficiently deliver the power to where it is needed. What if instead we generated energy right where it is needed at our busienss locations to realize energy cost savings, busienss certainty and increased profits! A few reflections from NY!
