Aftermarket services for vessels like P12 in long-term commercial operation hold significant potential, even as these vessels require way less maintenance than their fossil-fuel-powered counterparts.
While the prevailing narrative around electric vehicles in general often emphasizes minimal maintenance requirements by design, this narrative while being mostly true is generally based on the components these products lack rather than the entire product and its specific needs to operate well.
We have all learned how electric cars for example, lacking many moving parts and filters, still might need to service their brakes every now and then. Way less often than a legacy product, but still a need.
Looking forward, it is simply a different type of service offer that is needed for the future where data driven planned and/or preventative maintenance will probably play a larger role, instead of the legacy set of factors dependent on runtimes and dirty filters.
The better we design and manufacture these products, the longer they will be able to generate value for the users, lower opex costs for operators aswell as creating a demand for aftermarket services over time.
Very exciting times indeed.
Today marked a groundbreaking milestone as the world’s first electric hydrofoil service set sail in Stockholm! After four years of intense product development, the first passengers have embarked on this sustainable journey with smiles.
Hats off to Tobias Carlsson, Michaela Haga, and Gustav Hemming from Region Stockholm for the invaluable collaboration, as well as the stellar team at Candela! ??
