Be Obsessive about Organization: A Team Member's Perspective Lynette Perales, an Infusion Pharmacist in Charge at Barnes, was recently asked to share her thoughts on company fundamental "Be Obsessive about Organization." Lynette shares that it is essential to organize tasks in a clear, predictable way for the desired outcome of those tasks. "You could say that I’m very obsessed with a very organized work flow at the Pharmacy. Understanding the order of when a process must be completed and its relation to other processes to be accomplished in an effective and timely manner requires everything to be organized in a way that is predictable what the outcome will be. In the case when there’s a section of the flow that is not working smoothly or is delayed; it can be easy to be identified and resolved faster than if it is unorganized and unplanned. Not all organization means it must be orderly at all times as I also like the phrase of Organized Chaos: “Organized chaos works for some people, and this can feel as good to them as a neat and orderly space can feel to others.” Thru my personal experience I’ve found out that there are some benefits of being obsessed with organization. Here’s a few of them: 1. It boosts your productivity When you’re organized, you maximize your time and effort, which results in increased productivity. 2. It improves your decision-making 3. It ignites your creativity 4. It improves your physical health 5. It improves your mental health 6. It improves your work-life balance 7. It strengthens your relationships 8. It unlocks your potential for growth and success Hope this can help you and others at work and/or in your everyday tasks." Get to know Lynette: "Born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, a proud Alumni of the University of PR, Medical Science Campus College of Pharmacy. Married, mother of 3 kids, 2 cats, and 3 dogs. Member of a local church choir (2nd Soprano), Disney fanatic, UCF Knights Football fan and Gator Fan and avid Scrapbooker…plus a Coffee-holic." #BarnesHealthcare #Organization #EmployeeVoice

Reflecting on my first year as a Critical Care Consultant feels like looking back on a whirlwind. Time zoomed by almost as fast as my trusty (and slightly rickety) Nissan Juke did on my weekly London-Birmingham commutes. I’d planned to share some profound clinical insights, but instead, I’ve ended up with a list of life lessons, surprising discoveries, and some self-inflicted chaos. Lesson one: know when *not* to get involved. My inner helper had to take a seat after one too many experiences of trying to “save” people who, frankly, didn’t even *want* saving. I learned to "mind my own business" for the sake of my sanity. In my first days, I quickly figured out the quirks of my colleagues—think fish and chips meets samosa and chutney—and made a mental list of who to bond with and who to (politely) dodge. And while some people expect a poker-faced boss, I’ve been more of the “sarcastic mentor” type, much to everyone’s mixed delight and dismay. I also realized that doctors needed some bonding time. Watching the nursing team have fun with team-building activities made me feel like a jealous sibling. So, I organized some casual meet-ups over donuts and samosas. When higher-ups balked about "governance," I may or may not have rebelled. Spoiler: it was worth it. All in all, it’s been a year of balancing empathy, learning to laugh things off, and testing the limits of the NHS’s resilience (mine included). I’ve made some amazing friends, ruffled a few feathers, and hopefully left a positive mark. Now, onto the next chapter—with or without samosas. ?? #NHSdoctors #Resilience #Leadership #Wellbeingatwork

Have you ever found yourself in a job where the workplace values conflicted with your personal values?? Maybe you were forced to tow a company line that you strongly disagreed with?? Or felt processes weren’t supporting people appropriately? If these workplace values conflict with your essential self, it can cause repeated moral injury. This can lead to inner conflict, job dissatisfaction and burnout. I see working in a role that galvanises your personal values as part of a rich and meaningful life.? It’s one of the reasons I opened my private practice eluceo – so I could support the people I work with in the way I wanted, stay true to my values, interests and strengths, and create a professional life that nourished and supported my personal one.? This topic is one we explore in Vitality Medicine – my 9-month 1:1 program designed to help you create a life that makes you feel wildly alive and wholly yourself. If that lights you up, I’d love to chat. Image description: Dr Ashlea, a fair-skinned woman with dark blonde hair, is standing in the doorway of her private practice eluceo. It's painted bright blue. She's holding a cup of tea and laughing at the camera.

How to Reduce Staff Turnover in Memory Care Did you know? Most staff leave because they feel unsupported—not because of the workload. Here’s what you can do today: 1?? Hold a 10-Minute Check-In: Ask your team what’s working and what’s not. Show them you care about their experience. 2?? Build “Micro-Wins”: Recognize small successes daily. Did a caregiver handle a tough behavior well? Acknowledge it on the spot. 3?? Simplify the Training Gap: Choose one common dementia behavior (like wandering) and provide your team with a simple, actionable strategy to address it. Retention starts with relationships. When your team feels valued, they’ll stick around longer—and work with more heart. What’s one thing you do to make your team feel supported? Share below! ??
