To truly diversify your workforce, you must diversify your recruiting lens.

My time at Mars has seen me work across six different functions – based both here in the UK and overseas. ? Throughout this time one thing has been ever-present: our fantastic food and snacking brands. ? There’s so much more to the food and drinks industry than I first imagined when I joined Mars aged 21, which is why?I’m proud to lend my support the?Mmmake Your Mark campaign. ? The campaign aims to highlight why the food and drink industry is such a great place to work, so here are a few reasons why I love being a part of it: ? ???We make and sell products that are part of people’s everyday lives. If I want to know what people think of our brands, a new innovation or product, I don’t need to find an expert – my friends or family are very happy to share their view! ? ??What we do is incredibly tangible – during my time at Mars I’ve had many targets to hit but some aims of my favourites are units, tonnes and pallets. I love this sense of scale. Financials are important in all industries, but in ours we are delivering these by physically making something and delivering them to our customers and consumers. ? ???There is a huge breadth of roles that exist in this industry and it’s possible to grow a career that spans many disciplines. I have loved the diversity of responsibilities and the opportunity to build both my personal skill set and a broader understanding of the world around me – especially how food and drinks are made and sold. ? ?? The food and drink industry is a great place to learn and grow. Whilst functional delivery is important, this is enabled by a huge focus on personal development. It’s been great to see so many people join, develop and grow their careers often across multiple functions and companies during my time in this industry. ? ???I’ve worked with and learned from some of the brightest minds around, at Mars and through our suppliers and customers. The talent within our industry is a wonderful community of people, many of whom I feel very fortunate to spend time with over the years. ? So if like me when I was younger, you don’t quite know what you want to do yet – perhaps the food and drinks industry is a place to look.? ?
