We are proud to share our 2023 Annual Report, showcasing a year of impact and partnership in global conservation. This year, we made significant strides across projects in Florida, New Hampshire, Kenya, India, South Africa, Oregon, and Alaska - thanks to the collective efforts and expertise of our dedicated partners on the ground. We had the privilege of gathering valuable insights from members of project teams who emphasized a shared approach: the importance of teamwork, positivity, and staying focused on the bigger picture. Hearing directly from David Roby at Bear Hill, Diamond Bergeron in the Florida Everglades, Jamie Gaymer in Kenya’s Rhino Range Expansion, Bibhab Talukdar in India’s B2B Corridor, Pam Throop in Alaska, Dr. Odette Curtis-Scott in South Africa, and Brenda Smith in Oregon, it’s clear that overcoming complex conservation challenges requires not just skill, but also collaboration and a unified vision. ?? Powerful quote alert ?? "Communicating fear without giving people agency is not effective communication." This resonates deeply with me, especially in the context of engineering. Entrepreneurial education can bridge the gap by fostering ?????????????????? (understanding of the challenges) and ???????????? (the ability to take action). Today's complex, uncertain and plural challenges demand more than simple solutions. They demand science, research and experience in the process of finding solutions toward a sustainable, better future. Once we understand this process (the 'how'), it should be about applying it and iterating for continuous learning and improvement. Step by step, with a touch of ingenuity, I think we can build a better path forward.
"Communicating fear without giving people agency is not effective communications," explains Melissa Fleming, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, in this Transformative Urban Coalitions film???. Despite the escalating climate and nature emergency, the UK's leadership on these critical global issues has waned in recent years. The vital connection between people, especially the poorest communities, and nature is well-documented – as is the importance of locally-led initiatives to halt and reverse nature loss. Fauna & Flora, along with other UK-based partners, have key demands for the new UK government regarding international nature commitments, focused on four main areas of action: Global Leadership, Aid & Finance, Reducing Environmental Impact and Leading by Example in the UK. The next five years are crucial for making progress - join us in urging the UK government to step up and lead the charge for a sustainable future for all: https://lnkd.in/eCqGN6RB CATHOLIC AGENCY FOR OVERSEAS DEVELOPMENT WWF-UK Conservation International International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) Forest Peoples Programme RSPB Zoological Society of London (ZSL) #SavingNatureTogether #GlobalLeadership #EnvironmentalImpact

Excitement is building as we prepare for the WELA Great Barrier Reef Leadership Intensive! ?? From Monday 8th to Thursday 12th July 2024, we'll be gathering at the beautiful Seagulls Resort in Townsville for an incredible week of learning, collaboration, and climate action. Designed by and for women and gender-diverse people dedicated to our environment, the Women's Environmental Leadership Australia Great Barrier Reef Leadership Intensive, in partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, aims to support a new wave of environmental and climate leadership in the reef region. Why is this important? ?? > We're building the leadership capability and capacity of women and gender-diverse community leaders actively working on Reef catchment. > We're engaging local participants in Townsville through our national organization, WELA. > We're empowering women to address coastal restoration and tackle the climate change challenges facing the Great Barrier Reef. > We're fostering collective community action to protect the reef, now and in the future. > We're creating a leadership network to support greater collaboration between women across the Reef. Who will be there? ?? 21 women and gender-diverse people from across government agencies, businesses, academia, data specialisation, tourism operators, psychologists, community groups, diverse NGO's, Traditional Owners and divers. Both local and national voices coming together to make a difference. In the words of Dr. Yolanda Waters from Divers for Climate: “It is rare to get everyone in the same room and to better understand what and how we are working to protect our reef. I joined the program to feel inspired again. The last bleaching event took it out of me, and I want to be working more collaboratively in driving change.” Stay tuned for updates across the week ?? #WELA #LeadershipIntensive #GreatBarrierReef #ClimateLeadership #WomenInLeadership #EnvironmentalLeadership #CommunityAction

Dive into the #WILD12 resolution: ‘Mainstreaming Mentorship of Young Ecological Stewards’! ?? CoalitionWILD aims to empower young conservationists to become confident, respected leaders. Over the past decade, it has connected nearly 200 emerging leaders with senior professionals and expanded their networks. ?? The Global Mentorship Program has recently seen a surge in interest, with over 600 annual applications. Unfortunately, this has not been matched by increased participation from senior professionals, a trend observed in other conservation mentorship programs as well. ?? Effective knowledge transfer from senior professionals is essential for maintaining continuity in #conservation work. ?? For this reason, the resolution calls for promoting cross-generational dialogue to support intergenerational equity. ?? Interested in endorsing the #resolution? Visit this link to learn more: https://lnkd.in/d4E7xHjz ____ ??? The 12th World Wilderness Congress (#WILD12) brought together thousands of delegates to coordinate and mobilize the protection of Earth’s remaining wilderness and wild places. "I hope there are ongoing ways to stay connected. This is an incredible network to tap into. This network is so important. Someone will know something else we don't know. Some will have resources we don't have. Figuring out how to stay connected will be helpful…" - Maricela Rodriguez The incredible network Senior Advisor Rodriguez is referring to is you! It was also the attendees from a dynamic summit of communicators, community leaders, corporate executives, and people working in government. It was a dynamic event, and it was an honor to join these phenomenal leaders for a brief discussion on community engagement's role in times of crisis and when communicating risk. Summer Sylva did a phenomenal job facilitating the panel, and I learned so much from my fellow panelists, Dr. S. Atyia Martin and Maricela Rodriguez. You can catch the entire first half of the day, which includes our discussion, here: https://lnkd.in/etXHaaDk A MASSIVE thank you to Michael G. and Justin ángel Knighten, New America, Howard University, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Climate Group, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and their respective teams for co-hosting this summit. Be sure to connect with everyone mentioned via LinkedIn. And as Marcelia encouraged us all to do, let’s stay connected! #RiskCommunication #Disasters #CrisisCommunications #EmergencyManagement #Resilience #Communucations

Part 7. A: Chapter 7: The Dawn of Collective Prosperity In the realm of governance, the approach had shifted towards more participatory models, where decision-making was informed by the diverse voices and needs of the populace. This inclusivity in governance ensured that policies and initiatives were reflective of the collective aspirations of New Zealand’s multifaceted society, further cementing the foundations of trust and cooperation between the government and its citizens. Environmental stewardship had also taken center stage in this new era. Guided by the wisdom of indigenous Maori practices alongside insights from other cultures, New Zealand made significant strides in conservation and sustainability. This collaborative approach to environmental care not only preserved the nation’s natural beauty but also ensured that it could be enjoyed by future generations. “The Dawn of Collective Prosperity” marked a turning point in New Zealand’s history—a time when the synergies of a diverse, inclusive society were fully realized. It showcased the potential of a nation to not only adapt and grow in the face of change but to thrive, creating a legacy of prosperity, unity, and harmony for the world to admire. This final chapter of New Zealand’s transformative journey was a testament to the enduring power of community, diversity, and shared values. It was a vision of what the future could hold when nations embrace the richness of their human mosaic, working together towards a collective prosperity that benefits all.
