Rights of Way (ROW) permits companies to cross public or private land for the purpose of connecting projects like communication towers, pipelines, and others. Here at WGM, our ultimate goal is to strengthen communities for a resilient future through insightful design. That's why we've spent the better part of a year collaborating with Broadwater County and the Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) to draft an amendment to the county's Growth Policy. What is a growth policy? It's an official guide based on common vision for managing change in communities. As Broadwater County grows, it aims to develop a Growth Policy that aligns with its vision of preserving its unique rural character and agricultural lands while embracing the potential benefits of growth. This amendment focuses on inclusion of a future land use map. With the draft future land use plan/map, the community is charting a course that honors their values and sets the stage for a prosperous future. As the policy moves toward the adoption process, Broadwater County residents, local and state agencies, and other stakeholders are providing final comments for consideration. We're excited to see how this plan strengthens Broadwater County for a resilient future.

Feature Presentation at Infraday Pacific Northwest - October 29 - Seattle - www.infraday.com/pnw - "Washington State Department of Transportation – Lower Snake River Dams Transportation Study" - The Snake River from Clarkston to Pasco contains four dams (Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite). There has been much interest in removing these dams for the benefit of native fish species. While there have been several studies that address the topic of removing the dams, there is limited understanding of how transportation would be affected. As such, the Washington State Legislature directed WSDOT to study the impacts of shifting the movement of freight and goods that currently move by barge to truck and rail. WSDOT is currently in the first of four phases of the study. This presentation will be on first phase of the study where we will discuss how freight and goods currently move into and out of eastern Washington. The presentation will also present the scale of our effort plus what will be done in the remaining three phases of the study. This will be presented by Jim Mahugh, Special Projects Program Administrator, Washington State Department of Transportation

After spending last week discussing and learning about getting the most out of our agricultural water in California this story shows what is possible when responsible restoration projects are put into action to remove obsolete infrastructure. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the diverse group of stakeholders that depend on water in California. Strategies need to take into account the distinct differences in local hydrology in disparate parts of the state. Responsible use by domestic water agencies across the state is needed to ensure water is not wasted and sufficient supply exists to ensure the future of our Ag Industry as well as our magnificent wilderness areas. I believe Cal-Trout's tagline says it best. Fish - Water - People. I am hopeful we can continue to collaborate to find workable solutions, for urban, agricultural and ecological water needs.
