?????? The G?vle Goat: Sweden’s beloved (and often ill-fated) Yule goat tradition. Every holiday season since 1966, the city of G?vle, Sweden, has erected a giant Yule goat made of straw, standing proudly in the town square. This festive symbol, called the G?vle Goat, was inspired by the traditional Swedish Yule goat, a Scandinavian and Northern European symbol for Christmas and the Yule winter festival. The G?vle Goat has become famous not only for its impressive size, but also for its history of repeated arson. Despite security measures, the goat has been destroyed or damaged in more years than not, often by fire. Even without human intervention, the goat does not always survive; in 2023, it was severely pecked at for grain by jackdaws – a type of bird – due to the straw used to construct the goat containing a higher than usual amount of seeds. Explore a timeline of the goat’s demise and survival since 1966 ?? https://w.wiki/_BC2

Today, we celebrate one of the planet's most majestic creatures: the rhino. But while we honor these incredible animals, we also face a stark reality—rhinos are critically endangered. Did you know? - There are 5 species of rhinos in the world, but 3 are critically endangered: the black, Javan, and Sumatran rhinos. - In just over a decade, more than 9,000 rhinos have been lost to poaching. - Currently, fewer than 80 Sumatran rhinos and less than 70 Javan rhinos remain in the wild. - Rhino poaching peaked in 2015 with 1,349 killed in South Africa alone. Despite these alarming numbers, there’s hope. Thanks to conservation efforts, poaching has declined by 50% over the past decade, but there’s still so much more to be done! On this International Rhino Day, let's stand together to protect these gentle giants. Support organizations that are fighting poaching, protect rhino habitats, and help spread awareness. How can YOU help? 1. Support rhino conservation projects 2. Spread awareness with #SaveTheRhino? 3. Say NO to products made from endangered wildlife I am supporting the https://rhinory.com/ #rhinory. Read all about this amazing organization and the plans for the future - a world where Rhinos will prosper right here in the hill country of Texas. Together, we can make a difference! #InternationalRhinoDay #SaveTheRhinos #ConservationMatters #EndWildlifePoaching #ProtectOurPlanet

Spicy alert!?Our ‘Sweden’s Oldest Spice’ competition (and Anna) is featured on TV4 news today?????? What’s the buzz? We’re on the hunt for Sweden’s oldest spice to help reduce food waste. And we’ll cook with the winning spice???? Why does this matter? Tons of food is wasted just because it passed its best-before date, which is unnecessary. Food often lasts long after this date; the label only guarantees quality, not safety. With this competition, we want to encourage people to use their senses—look, smell, and taste—to avoid waste. This way, we can save both food and money (our favorite things to save)! Join the competition: 1. Check your spice rack for old spices. 2. Snap a pic of the best-before date. 3. Email it to?[email protected]?and tell us where in Sweden you found it. You could win 1000 SEK to shop with us and see your spice used in a special dish?? More details are on our site! Happy spice hunting, folks! P.S.?We’re also looking for Finland’s and Denmark’s oldest spices. Same rules apply:?[email protected]?for Finnish spices and?[email protected]?for Danish spices.

Seriously smart seagulls??? You might think seagulls are a pest. ? But really, they deserve some respect! ? They can spot your ice cream from nearly 2 kilometres away. They'll remember a face, especially if you've fed them before - read more about this in an article by the University of Otago. And they'll remember your food preferences: If they've seen you eat from a red package, they'll choose a red package too - a University of Sussex article explains. ? Maybe it's time to take those seagulls seriously! All articles are in my latest newsletter. See in the comments???? #ageoflight #lighting #seagull #animalfacts #vision
