When have you felt most innovative or creative in your approach to work? And how did your environment influence this? You hear a lot of talk about psychological safety - in a nutshell, it means you feel safe to speak up, to disagree openly, to take risks, and to challenge how things are done without fear of repercussions or gaslighting. For Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse staff, however, psychological safety so often feels painfully absent. ?? Psychological safety at work = a more open, innovative, connected work community. Creating safe spaces + structure is at the heart of all of our learning experiences. For our emerging HEI Leaders, in particular, it's a pivotal opportunity to experience a level of self-discovery that allows them to zoom in on their identity, values, and ambitions, and to zoom out and really see the context they're operating within. It's from this new vantage point that we invite participants to reimagine the leaders they will become and the impact they will create at work and beyond. People assume my work in DEI work is hard. It's not. I don't spend time convincing leaders of the value of diversity and inclusion (that's hard). Instead, I work with those who already prioritize it. At Goodwill of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago, alongside Deidre Garrett and Ann Marie Newman Ph.D., we're shaping long-term strategies to embed inclusive behaviors into leadership expectations. No need to convince these leaders that inclusion and belonging matters. They get it! We are equipping them with practical inclusive skills to become the exceptional leaders they aspire to be and fostering a supportive community for leaders to learn and grow together. Purely joyful work!

Embracing Every Child’s Unique Path! In a world that often celebrates leadership as the ultimate success, it's easy to feel pressured to mold every child into a leader. But the truth is, not every child is destined to lead, and that’s perfectly okay. Every child is a unique blend of talents and personality traits. Some naturally gravitate towards leadership, while others thrive as thinkers, creators, or nurturers. Their contributions are just as valuable. Instead of fitting children into a mold, let’s celebrate their individual strengths.?In this way, we can raise a generation of children who are not only happy and confident but also aware of their own worth, irrespective of their role in society. Whether they become leaders, innovators, caregivers, or anything else, they will know that their contributions are meaningful and that they are ENOUGH, just as they are :)

Tawina Winnie Chaposa, a 2022 Aspire Leaders Program alumna, shared some wise words when asked about her takeaways from her time in the program. Celebrating your victories — no matter how small — can decrease your chances of burnout and renew your motivation for your work.
