My ORS Impact colleagues Kendra Winchester and Alex Ozkan are rocking their work with Democracy Fund's Digital Democracy portfolio! Over the past several years, the team has been testing 90-minute, small group learning conversations with grantees (without the funder present) in lieu of written reporting requirements. According to DF's blog post ?????? (?????? ??????) ?????????????????? ???????? ???? ?????????????????????????? ???????? ?????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????? (link below), the approach has yielded significant benefits: ?????????-???????? ????????????????: Immediate knowledge sharing that helps identify patterns that might be missed in traditional reporting. ????????????? ????????????????: Grantee access to the same learnings as funders, promoting transparency and mutual understanding. ??????????????? ????????????: Valuable time saved for grantees, allowing them to focus more on their critical work. ??????????????????? ????????????: Safer space for honest dialogue without the funder's direct presence/pressure. ????????????? ??????????????????????????: Stronger relationships and coordination among grantees. The group learning session approach does come with tradeoffs, but Democracy Fund believes they are worth it. Disadvantages include: ?Data are anonymized and aggregated, making it more difficult to track progress at the grantee level over time. ?The approach benefits verbal processors over other types of communicators/learners. For those interested in learning more about these lessons and positive changes happening in the field of trust-based philanthropy, check out the full blog post by Democracy Fund: [https://lnkd.in/gsVR-AbM] ____ #TrustBasedPhilanthropy #ORSImpact #Innovation #Collaboration #LearningTogether #SocialImpact #DemocracyFund

Over the next 30 years, Millennial and Gen Z heirs are expected to inherit $68 trillion in assets in the largest wealth transfer in human history. These young donors are increasingly embracing participatory models to redistribute wealth directly to communities, resourcing movements, cooperatives, and community-controlled funds in an approach that's radically different from previous generations. Are you putting your money where your mission is?
As universities and colleges across the country focus on long-range diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies, the alignment of endowment/foundation portfolios is sometimes overlooked. The realization that institutions are not always "putting their money where their mission is" can have adverse reputational and fundraising effects. SouthCol Advisors builds mission-aligned portfolios, but we don't stop there. We also provide transparent impact reports that help tell the full story on how the portfolio is investing to achieve mission. Interested? Contact James W. Lumberg or Jeanne Elliott Enright #DEI #EmpoweringPortfolios #MissionInvesting #ImpactInvesting #PowerYourMission

This is a great report with an actual tool for folks to use in navigating the funder-intermediary-grantee relationship.
“This report summarizes findings from an extensive field and literature scan and interviews with 30 informants, including practitioners, funders, researchers, consultants, and staff members from several foundations. The report makes recommendations for foundations to consider in identifying and working with intermediaries to support racial equity, power sharing, and community voice. An adaptable tool was also created to help foundation staff navigate decision-making points and options for determining when and how to best work with intermediaries.” Working with Intermediaries Strategically

Last year, Constellations Culture Change Fund moved $1,000,000 through JustFund! The Constellations Culture Change Fund housed at The Center for Cultural Power, was imagined and designed by BIPOC grassroots cultural practitioners from the ground up. Constellations is dedicated to the redistribution of resources to advance BIPOC cultural and narrative power, and build collective power among BIPOC Artist Disruptors, Culture Bearers and cultural strategy organizations working at the intersection of arts, culture and social justice, and provides a unique opportunity for funders to grow the cultural strategy field at this intersection. WHAT THEY LOVE ABOUT JUSTFUND: - A values-centered partnership rooted in trust, transparency, and resourcefulness - The ability to ensure applicants have equitable access to grant applications - Organizational profiles allow for more visibility and opportunities for additional resourcing Are you a Funder who is ready to save time, move more money to movements, and join the movement to #resetphilanthropy as we know it? ??Learn more about JustFund: https://justfund.us/ ??Schedule a Funder Demo with our CEO: https://lnkd.in/gfeme3AP ??Learn more about Constellations Culture Change Fund: https://lnkd.in/gWyTjp6D #BIPOC #grassroots #socialjustice #culturalstrategy #techforgood

Director of Practice and Innovation at Reos Partners I Supporting leaders to collaborate across and within organisations when trust is low and stakes are high
A year ago, I wrote a post about what funders are learning about systems change.?How do you co-create change and reconfigure power imbalances? Since then, together with my colleagues at Reos Partners, we’ve been asked numerous times to support, facilitate or advise on how to collaboratively fund systems transformation. So I’m reposting a few key lessons from a year ago, when I was interviewed for an evaluation of the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors Shifting Systems Initiative. The report is a great resource for practitioners in systems work, particularly for funders. My key takeaway was the 5 ways in which philanthropists assume change happens: ?? By funding collaboration: systems shift by working together ?? By funding social movements and networks: systems shift by dismantling current structures of hierarchy ?? By funding systems tools and practices: systems shift by understanding them better ?? By funding scaleable practices, that are interconnected: systems shift through scaling and connecting efforts ?? By funding as partners in deeper relationship with grantees, to address power relationships, historical trauma, racism and structural inequity: systems shift by changing ourselves and our relationships It's a useful lens through which to think about, and challenge, our own orientations to funding systems transformation. "Now is the time for organizations committed to racial equity to intentionally continue engaging in their work." In our latest blog, Erika Seth Davies, CEO of Rhia Ventures, highlights the three next steps forward for values-aligned investors to commit to racial equity: ?? Including racial equity as part of the investment policy statement ??? Soliciting buy-in from all parts of the organization in racial equity investing ?? Building partnerships with community organizations, nonprofits, and other stakeholders https://lnkd.in/ebQhnthp
