Happy Consumer Protection Week. I'm Randy Romanski, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Today, we're going to go through the top five consumer complaints of 2024. The 5th consumer complaint category from 2024 was telecommunication services. This includes telephone, Internet and cable or satellite TV services. If you're having issues with your provider, refer to your contract. Identity theft can occur many ways and takes many different forms, including account takeovers. Adding your phone number to the Wisconsin Do Not Call Registry stops legitimate telemarketers from calling you, and it's free. You can also reduce robocalls, scams, and other unwanted calls by using built-in anti spam tools that many phone service providers offer for free. Finally, the number one consumer complaint in 2024. With 2525 complaints was landlord tenant issues. The most common issues in this category included failure to maintain the premises, security deposit returns, unauthorized entry, mold and infestation, and inadequate disclosures.
