Ka rawe! What better way to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori than with the launch of an incredible new website for Te Potiki National Trust? Māori Maps describes itself as “our guide to your home” - a digital gateway to finding the tribal marae of Aotearoa New Zealand. The website guides users to discover over 780 marae using maps, information and photographs, helping Māori to connect with their marae and linking young people with their ancestral identity. We partnered with the Trust to deliver an upgraded Māori Maps experience focused on making this tool as accessible and connected as possible. Data sovereignty and the preservation of generational knowledge is at the forefront of this project, breaking down barriers to finding your whakapapa and marae, and using modern tools to connect with heritage, culture and community. The new Māori Maps experience ticks a lot of boxes:? ? The beauty and significance of marae are front and centre ? Seamless experience for mobile users (of which there are many!)? ? In this week’s Akimblog review, Levin Ifko writes “While visiting Laura Anzola's Voices, which recently extended its run at EMMEDIA, I find myself entering a darkened space illuminated only by watery reflections cast upon gallery walls. Immersed in this liquid landscape, I hear voices sharing visceral stories dealing with personal experiences of immigration. Each voice is amplified by glowing hand-drawn animations projected across the room, honouring practises of storytelling and memory. An array of tiny blue lights appears from above, signalling as each voice begins to speak. Drawn towards the sounds, I move across the room, hoping to hear the stories clearly while standing directly underneath each light. Across the gallery space, two different speakers become illuminated. As another voice is added to the mix, the spoken words reflect similarities between stories. There's a fourth voice now and a melody emerges. At times, the voices fade and are replaced by music, intermixing the guttural sounds of humpback whales, which also illuminate lights as these new voices move across the gallery.” Laura Anzola: Voices is on view at EMMEDIA until February 24, 2024. ?? Gen Z is changing the real estate market in Latvia In my experience, I’ve noticed a shift in recent years in how younger consumers think and act. At a recent “opening days” for one of our renovated apartment buildings in Riga, @Lauvas 7 ??, most interest came from people aged 25-30. This got me thinking about some key trends from this generation that were recently published as an opinion article in Delfi Latvia ?? Gen Z prefers online interactions: For them, digital information is a must. Virtual tours, videos, and online messaging often replace in-person visits. ?? Smaller, simpler homes: They prefer smaller, well-designed spaces over larger properties. Shared facilities like gyms, co-working spaces, and community areas are also important for a sense of community. ?? Sustainability is key: This generation is very focused on the environment. They look for energy-efficient appliances, eco-friendly materials, and easy access to public transport, which means the demand for green housing will only grow. While we’re still seeing how GenZ will fully impact the real estate market, it’s clear that the future of real estate is digital, sustainable, and community-focused.
