Trust in #nonprofits rebounds! The current level of trust in nonprofits is 57%. This is based on the findings of a survey conducted by Independent Sector. The survey, which is the largest nationally representative survey of its kind, surveyed over 3,000 individuals. ? Trust in nonprofits has rebounded by 5 points after four years of decline. Trust in nonprofits is higher than trust in #philanthropy, which remains steady at 33%. ? Trust in nonprofits is also higher than trust in other sectors such as government, business, and media, which have seen a decline in trust. ? Our ability to trust is deeply complex and personal. I'm not a naturally trusting person--it takes time to earn my trust, but once you do, we've entered a deep bond that I'll protect to my core. Social impact is similarly a pact of trust between the organizations enacting change and the funders that support them. This space of trust has been studied in the Independent Sector's annual Trust in Nonprofits and Philanthropy survey. Two key insights that stood out for me: 1. After four years of decline, trust in nonprofits has rebounded by 5 points to 57%. 2. Trust in philanthropy remains steady at 33%, lower than trust in nonprofits. A recent report from Independent Sector showed that nonprofits made a significant rebound in public trust compared to previous years. - 57% of those surveyed indicated they trusted nonprofits, an increase of 5 points after 4 years of general decline in public trust. - The report showed that the public trusted nonprofits more than any other sector tracked, including government, business and media which have all declined in trust. - 94% of Americans are worried about the growing lack of national unity. The findings indicated that the public trusts nonprofits to reduce national divisions more than they trust corporations, government, or media. These numbers are huge.
