Opportunity to Share your views around the Covenant to improve the relationship between civil society and government. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) are working closely with national government and ACEVO (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations) to develop a Civil Society Covenant. The Covenant is a new agreement to improve the relationship between civil society and government. Your thoughts and views are very much needed on the draft principles – whether you’ve had a positive or negative experience of engaging with local or national government. This is a great opportunity for the voices, of Northn Devon, to influence the national Covenant, which can help to remove some of the barriers that often stall local community action. https://lnkd.in/egrnCiuu

??Keir Starmer has outlined a framework to enable a closer relationship between the government and Civil Society. The prime minister detailed his plans at the Labour and Civil Society Summit. This Civil Society Covenant has four key principles 1. Transparency 2. Recognition 3. Participation 4. Partnership The covenant agreement will launch in the New Year following a consultation process with people and organisations from across the Third Sector. “By harnessing the dynamism, innovation and trusted reach of civil society organisations, we can boost growth and deliver better outcomes for communities right across the country.” The government are keen to address the barriers to meaningful partnership: a topic which has often featured in our roundtable discussions with civil society leaders and philanthropists. Highlight 19: $1.4 Million Secured for West Monroe, LA CFS is committed to helping local governments access the funding they need to invest in their communities — and the City of West Monroe, Louisiana, is a prime example of what can be achieved.?Over the past 12 months, we secured over $1.4 million in competitive funding for seven impactful projects in West Monroe through a mix of federal and foundation opportunities. These awards will benefit the city and surrounding Ouachita Parish by supporting projects that enhance public parks, arts programs, and vital infrastructure—strengthening community ties, attracting tourism, and fostering sustainable growth. Since 2021, we have partnered with West Monroe to identify strategic opportunities, craft winning applications, and maximize funding outcomes. Over the past three years, we’ve secured nearly $4 million in discretionary funding, allowing the city to win highly competitive awards that deliver tangible, local benefits. Securing grant funding isn’t easy. Small and local governments often face challenges like limited staff capacity, technical requirements, and the complexity of competitive applications. That’s where we come in. Our team provides the expertise and strategy needed to unlock funding for projects that transform communities — large and small. From rural towns to growing cities, we help local governments level the playing field and secure the resources they need to thrive. #FundingSuccess #LocalGovernment #CommunityImpact #24Highlightsof2024?

?? In line with our Community Engagement Strategy and the Local Government Act 1993, we are engaging with our community to seek feedback to inform the development of our Draft Delivery Program / Operational Plan and Budget 2024-2025. ?? Our combined Delivery Program and Annual Operational Plan is an important document that sets out Council’s action plan for achieving the community priorities outlined in the Community Strategic Plan (CSP). It identifies the projects, programs and activities that council will conduct to achieve the commitments of the Delivery Program. This is supported by the Annual Budget which outlines how we will fund the delivery of services and projects to our community. It funds services like managing waste, maintaining our infrastructure, community facilities and parks, operating our libraries, events and services to people at all stages of life. This is ‘Future Federation 2024-2025’. The Future Federation 2024-2025 Draft Delivery Program / Operational Plan and Budget will be presented to Council for endorsement for public exhibition on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. ??Find out more about Future Federation 2024-2025 and our upcoming engagement sessions: https://ow.ly/hoVV50RgHJk #federationcouncil #celebratingcommunity #creatingopportunity

The General Election is on and we're calling all CLTs to lobby their Prospective Parliamentary Candidates! Our 10-point Manifesto for Community Land Trusts?shows how the next government could wire community agency and ownership into the systems in England and Wales – whether it's for building affordable homes, codesigning and stewarding large-scale developments, regenerating our high streets, or restoring land for nature. See more about the manifesto and its launch here: https://lnkd.in/dKpJYEiN So we're calling on our members to contact their PPCs, showcasing what they plan to do in their communities and sharing our manifesto to show what policy change we need to see to support all kinds of CLTs. They can find templates here: https://lnkd.in/eXnPsdZa We know that our member lobbying can make a real impact. Over the past 5 years, our members' local lobbying has seen us make some real gains: - Over £240m of public money pledged for community led housing - Planning policies?to encourage and incentivise land for community led development, including Community Led Exception Sites - Legislation to protect the ability of CLTs to charge ground rents, and – almost! – to exempt them from leasehold enfranchisement* Our vision and advocacy for CLTs will be at the heart of all sessions at our upcoming Building with Communities Conference on Friday 21 June - with speakers including our Pooja Agrawal (CEO of PUBLIC PRACTICE, Nicholas Boys Smith (Chair of CREATE STREETS and Office for Place) and our keynote speaker Charlie Luxton (Founder of Charlie Luxton Design, Channel 4 presenter and Hook Norton Community Land Trust Secretary). Find out more here bit.ly/BWCom2024 *we'll be keeping an eye on proceedings with the Leasehold Reform Bill to make sure the CLT exemption is not dropped #BWCom2024 #CLTs #CommunityLandTrust #CommunityLedHousing #Placemaking

For businesses in North Yorkshire, there are some grants available from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund -https://lnkd.in/eatN3nhC "Woohoo!" I hear you cry. Well that was my initial reaction until I read that this didn't include businesses in the City of York, where the City of York Council's share of the UK Prosperity Fund is being spent on programmes and other activities - more on that here: https://lnkd.in/esspA3cW I don't see a problem with this approach, I just find it strange that the actions of City of York council and North Yorkshire Council don't align when they are pretty well linked, for example through the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub. There are many small businesses and individuals ready to start their business journey in York, many of whom will already have a business plan and just need financial support to help them make their next move. For example, there are many creative businesses that may need this support to get themselves started or level up their existing business, which could help strengthen York's position as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. In the meantime, I might just have to move my small business down the road to Escrick if I want to apply for local grant funding??♂?
