Hi Friends! It’s that magical time of year again, and I’m so excited to share that we’re kicking off our Angel Tree program! ???? This year, we have 75 angels who could use a little holiday joy, and I’d love for you to be part of it. If you’d like to participate, just DM me???? Thank you for being a part of this wonderful journey. Let’s make this Christmas a memorable one for as many children as we can. Angel Tree FAQ ??What is Angel Tree? The Salvation Army connects with families in need. For whatever reason families are unable to provide Christmas gifts and so the community steps up to make their day special. We are given a tag for each angel that includes a specific name, age, gender, “gift wish” and clothing size. ??Where can I get a tag? DM me???? ??How much does it cost? Sponsors of an angel should keep the cost reasonable. The child will often have a sibling on the tree so rather than excessive spending on one angel it is encouraged to select multiple angels. ??????Can I adopt an entire family? Yes, I have had people sponsor an entire family and purchase gifts for all the siblings. It is a fun approach especially if you intend on sponsoring multiple children. ??When will the gifts need to be returned to FresYes? We will need all the gifts by Dec 9th. I can make arrangements for pick up too. ??Can I donate money instead of buying a gift? Yes! Absolutely yes! When money is donated we will buy the gifts on the sponsor’s behalf. Money donations have helped tremendously in the past. Have you ever been in a situation where someone turns to you as their last hope? It’s both humbling and heartbreaking. This week, I’ve been running the intake line for our organization, The Paw In Hand Project, and the number of calls we’ve received has been overwhelming. Another week, another 10 referrals. The need for help is greater than ever. But here’s the hard part—there are more people and pets in need than we can currently serve. I’ve spoken to three people in tears this week, desperate for someone to step in. One parent said, “I don’t want my kids to lose something else at Christmas time.” Another shared, “I got my dog right after my husband passed away.” Each of these stories weighs heavy on my heart. We want to help everyone, but our resources are stretched thin. Turning someone away when they’re in crisis feels unbearable. The good news? This week alone, your support has made an incredible impact. The donations we’ve received have allowed us to help families more than we could have otherwise. Every gift, big or small, helps keep families together during their most vulnerable moments. To those who have donated, thank you. You are the reason we’ve been able to foster hope and provide solutions to families in crisis. It's possible to teach your toddlers the joy of giving back. From donating toys and clothes to participating in food drives, there are so many ways we can show kindness and empathy. In this week's Waypoints article I address Respite care. From the article: The primary goal of respite care is to allow the primary caregiver to rest, recharge, and tend to their needs. Caring for a child with a disability can be physically, emotionally, and financially taxing, and respite can offer a vital reprieve, reducing the risk of burnout. In a perfect world, this break will help caregivers reduce their stress, at least for a little while. It could also enhance their health and well-being and ultimately provide improved care for their children. Organizations like A Mother's Rest Charitable Respite Foundation, The Lucas Project, Child Neurology Foundation, and ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center are doing the best they can to help families like mine. The blazing sun and soaring temperatures make everyday survival even more challenging for those without a safe place to stay. Here’s how YOU can make a difference: Donate Water and Sun Protection Supplies ???? Bottled water Sunscreen Hats and sunglasses Lightweight, breathable clothing Volunteer Your Time ? Help distribute water and supplies. Assist at cooling centers and shelters. Provide transportation to cooling centers. Spread the Word ?? One week from now, many of us will gather around Thanksgiving tables with our loved ones. But for 16 children in our law enforcement community, this will be their first Thanksgiving without their father at the table. In just four weeks, they'll face another difficult first - Christmas morning without dad. Some of the other families we're supporting are facing different but equally challenging circumstances - two fathers recovering from a traumatic brain injury, and a precious two-year-old battling B-cell leukemia. These are burdens no family should have to bear, especially during what should be the most joyful time of the year. This is why your support for Operation Santa's S.L.E.D. is so crucial right now. What began as a small campaign with big hopes has grown into something far beyond our expectations. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to provide toys, Christmas treats, and essential items like warm clothing to children and families across West Kent. ?????????????? ?????????? ???? ???????? Such has been the success, we're going to keep the Toy Campaign active throughout 2025.
