“Activists are hell to live with but they make great ancestors” – Robert Liberty 51 years ago, Oregon defined itself as a visionary pioneer for sound land use planning. In reaction to the unbridled growth and urban sprawl across farmland and forests of the 1960s and 1970s, Oregonians advocated for a solution to the rapid loss of natural resources and shared values. On May 29, 1973, Senate Bill 100 was signed into law. This landmark system it created was based on this simple concept: urban uses and development belong inside cities and towns while rural lands should be preserved for farms, forests, and open space. Since then, the legacy of SB 100 has shaped our remarkable quality of life and allows us to continue defending and planning for Central Oregon’s livable future. More than 100,000 acres of public land in Colorado are corner-locked - inaccessible to the public due to a checkerboard pattern of land ownership. ???? While these areas do come up against other public lands areas at each of the four corners, the legality of “corner cross” to access it is legally contested. After Four hunters crossed private airspace to access a public land plot, the billionaire ranch owner sued them for $7 million in damages by undermining the “exclusivity” of the ranch. ????????? The case is now being appealed to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, whose decision will create precedent across multiple western states. That’s why we are focusing on unlocking access to corner-locked land as one of our 2025 Policy Priorities. Learn more about this complex land access issue in our new article.???? https://zurl.co/mwad #CornerCrossing #LandAccess #COpolicy #COleg

Very concerning report about the future direction of the NT water management processes.?
Absolute must watch: https://lnkd.in/gNxsqaeK Thank you to the brave people who speak out on the travesty of what passes for land and water management in the NT - traditional owners, scientists, environmental advocates, former public service employees.
