It was great to have Bellingham Technical College's Diesel Technology program out to visit WRS today to tour the shop! The students brought thoughtful questions, and our team enjoyed sharing insight into the industry and what it's like to work at WRS. Great to see the Mayor of the West Midlands visit the Great Charles Street Development in Birmingham and hear about the work Moda is doing to support apprenticeships! ? When Precede Capital Partners provided a ￡188 million whole-loan facility to a joint venture between Apache Capital, Harrison Street and NFU Mutual for this build-to-rent development in 2023, we knew that the development would bring major benefits to the surrounding community. Redeveloping an abandoned car park in Birmingham’s city centre, Great Charles Street is not only transforming this disused space into essential new housing but also providing key opportunities for vocational development for local people. The scheme involves a fantastic work experience programme for trainees and is a prime example of how the real estate industry can deliver considerable social value. Moda is working with West Midlands Combined Authority and John Sisk & Son Ltd to roll out the programme. ? #Housing #UK #Skills
Earlier this week we welcomed West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker to our Great Charles Street site in Birmingham, where he met Ky, one of the apprentices working with our construction partner John Sisk & Son Ltd. Ky's apprenticeship is part of the ongoing Skills and Training hub at the site - a continuation of the programme first launched during construction of Moda, The Mercian, run in partnership with Sisk and the West Midlands Combined Authority With two operational neighbourhoods in Birmingham and a pipeline of thousands more new homes in the city, we're proud to support the growth of skills and vocations and to be able to contribute to its workforce and economy for the long term. Today at the?Kaskaskia College?Apprenticeship Forum, A representative from the Illinois Department of Commerce presented a copy of the Governor’s proclamation to Velocity Metalworks as one of the states 1,600 industry partners for Registered Apprenticeships. Bryan McIntosh (Director of Operations) and Kayla Duncan (HR Manager) were in attendance to accept the award.

NLEP COO Angie White, CEcD attended the statewide Apprenticeship Summit hosted in Baton Rouge Monday by Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and Committee of 100 to alert Louisiana business leaders of key changes to statewide high school assessments that will lead to an increase in internship and apprenticeship opportunities. But this requires partnership between industry and education, so the conversation is now underway. Northwest Louisiana was well represented by Jim Shockley of Gordon Incorporated in Bossier City, which has recently developed an impressive internship program with Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning to bolster their talent pipeline.
