Big thanks to NSCA for honoring Hyphn Studio with the Excellence in Business Award for Business Performance at their annual Business Leadership Conference in February! As we approach five years developing our Workplace Technology business, I often reflect on not only the lessons we've learned as a startup, but also how our leadership team has used those lessons to implement real change to improve both employee and customer experience. It's not easy and takes a lot of dedication and listening. It's all in keeping with one of our #CoreValues - #WeNeverSettle. Some key takeaways from the first five years - Clearly define the role - What is my role, and how does it relate to others' in the context of providing the best employee and customer experience? In a startup, it's easy to start by wearing a lot of hats. As you grow and become more specialized, it can be difficult to take those hats off. #RoleClarity has been hugely important in both achieving results and driving accountability. Clearly define the process - How does every role do their job in the best way possible and set other roles up for success down the line? Revenue targets and KPIs are important - but that's only the WHAT. Defining the HOW you get there as a team is equally (if not more) important for long term sustainability. Transparency & Communication - How is our team performing compared to our goals and vision? Nothing is worse than vague aggression from leadership to achieve goals that aren't clearly defined and no one can see. Operating System - As the market and buying trends change, how are you adapting your roles and processes quickly and efficiently to keep up? Treating our holistic process (including onboarding, career development, and project delivery) as an "operating system" that can be iteratively upgraded has made us more nimble and ready to handle changes as they come. Set up a consistent framework, and engaging the team to make small improvements throughout the year becomes easy - and can even be FUN!
