At Smoot Construction, Supplier Diversity isn’t just a goal—it’s a driving force behind the way we do business. As we continue Construction Inclusion Week, Day 3’s theme shines a light on the importance of building strong, diverse supply chains that empower communities and drive economic growth. With nearly 80 years of history as the Midwest's largest minority-owned construction management firm, we understand firsthand the impact that opportunity can have. We’ve benefited from doors being opened for us, and now, we make it our mission to open doors for others. By prioritizing supplier diversity, we ensure that minority-owned, women-owned, and other underrepresented businesses have a seat at the table and a chance to thrive alongside us. A diverse supplier base strengthens our projects, enhances our community impact, and fuels innovation. At Smoot, we are committed to leveraging our platform to support inclusive growth across the industry. Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable future—one partnership at a time. #ConstructionInclusionWeek #SupplierDiversity #SmootConstruction #Inclusion #OpportunityForAll #MidwestConstruction #DiversityInBusiness #BuildingStrongerTogether

Learn how Lara Rodriguez-Salvador, Jr. Estimator, views the importance of diversity and inclusion in our industry. Lara quotes, “Inclusion in the construction industry means fostering an environment where historically underrepresented voices are not only heard but valued. It involves taking the time to understand different cultures and backgrounds while being mindful of what may be considered offensive. Prioritizing inclusion elevates the standard of respect and helps cultivate a modern mindset in the construction industry.” #ManyStrengthsOneBond #ConstructionInclusionWeek #DiversePerspectives #InclusionInConstruction

How can we help? I ask this question a lot. Of connections, potential clients, candidates, and peers. It's kind of our motto. So today, as we kick off Construction Inclusion Week, it’s time to ask ourselves: How am I helping? How are we opening doors for people of color in construction and engineering? Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, and we reflect on the contributions of Indigenous communities and the larger impact that all POC can make in our industry—if given the chance. Creating pathways for diverse talent means stronger teams and a brighter future. Let’s hear your thoughts—how can we break down barriers and build a more inclusive industry? Comment and share your insights. #ConstructionInclusionWeek #IndigenousPeoplesDay #BuildTogether

The fourth annual Construction Inclusion Week, a grassroots event conceived by industry leaders to combat hate and intolerance on jobsites, kicked off Monday. With 41% of the current construction workforce planning to retire by 2031, creating an inclusive environment is seen as essential to meet growing demand for construction, architecture, and engineering positions. Attacks on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives could make achieving this objective more difficult for the industry.
