Last night, Eline Henriksen and I joined Chris Sheppardson, Candice Finn, and Joe Parfitt at The Rag - Army & Navy Club to discuss the pressing challenges rocking the UK education sector.
It’s no secret that the sector is under significant pressure. VAT changes, rising National Insurance, inflation, and a growing talent gap are just a few of the hurdles schools are grappling with - challenges that inevitably ripple into food service operations across the board.
What stood out, however, was the optimism in the room. Rather than focusing solely on the challenges, the leaders, consultants, and suppliers present saw immense opportunities to drive transformation:
- Unlocking new revenue streams by leveraging underutilised assets ??
- Adopting technology to enhance customer experiences, efficiency, and value ??
- Building more collaborative partnerships where both schools and caterers succeed ??
The pandemic was a defining moment for our sector, bringing undeniable hardship. But it also shaped a generation of ultra-resilient, forward-thinking operators who have proven they can adapt, innovate, and even thrive under the toughest conditions.
I for one am excited to see how caterers will navigate these challenges and embrace the opportunities ahead. At Kanpla we’re ready to be part of this evolution - helping schools and caterers drive efficiency, innovation, and success.
