Recently, following a presentation of how Mechanical Orchard would approach modernizing a critical system that has been in place for decades, one of the gentlemen came up to me and expressed how "excited" he was by our approach. Excited by a mainframe modernization. In the last week, as I was digging into the technical details of our methodology and technology, one of the folks mentioned relief that "we're solving it the right way." The contrast was against AI vendors and the proverbial "silver bullet" solution to modernization. We have a bag of bronze bullets, and this Series B will help us make more. Our Technology will continue to be built out of necessity vs imagination. This funding will help more of the ideas suggested by our engineers (as they weekly bring new modernized workloads into production) turn into the bronze bullets that make us 10 or 100x faster.

Sheesh, this post took as long to arrive as some legacy systems take to process a simple request. But hey, better late than never! I am happy to share that my company, Mechanical Orchard, has raised $50 million in our Series B round led by GV (Google Ventures) last week! AI may not meet all current expectations in the short term but will likely exceed them in the future. Right now, it’s often seen as a “silver bullet” for legacy modernization, but from experience, it’s not that simple. Modernization is complex due to the size and intricacy of existing systems. I had an interesting insight when sending out invitations to one of our latest ConTech events in Norway. In the traditional construction industry, Microsoft is the undisputed leader. But when I analyzed which email client ConTech startups used to open the invitation, Gmail was miles ahead, while Microsoft lagged far behind—with only 0.52% of the opens. ?? It makes me wonder: Are we seeing a shift in which platforms will define the future of construction?
