Who needs a bigger pod squad? At Earth Gives we are all about pods, shoals, flotillas, batterys and fevers. Of course we're talking about groups of fish. Scuba Diving magazine tells us that when fish swim together, they're called a shoal. When they swim in the same direction, it's called a school. That movement in unison is usually to help the school find food or mates. Earth Gives Day is embracing that same idea - having climate and environmental nonprofits swim together on one platform making it easier to have potential donor mates find you. This nationwide giving day is in response to eco philanthropy being stuck at just 2% of all giving. It is not enough to protect our futures and families. Today is Environment Day, and we're gearing up for our face-to-face fundraising relaunch with WWF-UK. ???? Nature is more than simply a part of our world - it's our life-support system. With the global push towards Net Zero operations, nearly all retailers have launched sustainability initiatives to cut their own scope 1 emissions and that of their supplier’s scope 3 emissions. This has caused these initiatives to trickle down to their suppliers including packaging and logistics. The Pacific Forest of Ecuador is not an easy ecosystem to classify, owing to the fact that it has so many different faces. Various names have been affixed to it over the years, but none of them really stuck. The western coast of Ecuador is, in fact, home to a diversity of distinct forest types within relatively close proximity. Chocó rainforest, premontane cloud forest, moist evergreen forest, and semi-deciduous or dry forest are just a few of the forest types that can be found in the Pacific Forest of Ecuador. In one particular area—in the northwest of the province of Manabí, between the towns of Jama and Pedernales—all of these forest types can be encountered over the course of a single day’s hike. Excellent news - these ponds are being restored in areas where Hampshire Isle of Wight Amphibian & Reptile Group HIWARG currently monitor for reptiles. This means that amphibian surveys can be undertaken on these restored ponds. The sweepstake or betting odds for which amphibian turns up first at Magdalen Hill Down pond? Great crested newt 2000/1 common frog* 2/1 smooth newt* 5/1 palmate newt 200/1 natterjack toad 10,000/1 pool frog 15,000/1 common toad* 100/1 Completely made up figure based on which species are in the area (*). Common frog is my favourite contender. There is no chance of the unstarred species to get to the pond naturally.
