Title 9 is the hottest topic in NIL right now. This is what you need to know. Starting July 1st, universities will be able to share up to 20 million in revenue with their student athletes. And as of right now, those payments are not projected to be split 5050 between men and women. And what does the federal government have to say about that? In January, the Department of Education put out a guidance that said that Title 9 does apply to NL payments. But just a few weeks later, the Trump administration rescinded that guidance, stating that Title 9 does not necessarily apply. For these payments, this change could open the door for more NFL money to go to the more revenue generating sports like football and men's basketball. More legal challenges are sure to come as schools figure out the best way to generate this new $20 million NFL package.
