Noon PT Sat Jan 11 - Palisades Fire smoke plume continues to show on both weather radar and visible satellite, indicating a very active fire. See orange arrow in this image from AEM Earth Networks Sferic Maps. Also plotted are the peak Daily Wind gusts, clearly showing how strong winds affect some areas, while just a few miles away the winds are much less. The NWS Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has done very well in forecasting the extreme fire-weather conditions (high winds + very low humidity + bone-dry vegetation). Typhoon Trami, known locally as "Kristine," has caused severe flooding across the Bicol region in the past 24 hours. Naga and Legazpi are heavily affected, with submerged streets, stranded residents, and widespread power outages. Emergency response teams are working around the clock, with over 380,000 people affected and more rain expected in the coming days.
