Procurement shifted from being a back-office function to a value driver within companies. This is one of the key points confirmed this week at the WPC. The World Procurement Congress is a key event to network and learn from international players in the industry. Tom Lamb, Head of UK Aria, and I were lucky enough to attend last week in London. Here are 4 key insights I thought interesting to share with you: ? Procurement is a function that has a great deal of influence on a company's direction towards its goals, both economically and in terms of sustainability. ? Procurement is a complex, multi-faceted process. Solutions to this problem are innovative and equally complex. ? Providing assistance with payment options and working capital is only a small part of a larger puzzle. ? It's important to confront and discover new offers and competitors in such a dynamic environment. A great opportunity for us to meet dozens of highly experienced, top-level leaders in this field. Thanks to Mercell for an inspiring event yesterday! It really sparked some interesting thoughts that I'm taking back to my organization.? Here are some of my key takeaways ?? ?? A strategic and dialog-driven approach to procurement should go beyond the tendering process. Procurement professionals need to cultivate relationships with the marketplace both before and after the bidding process. ?? In the area of public procurement, a dialog-driven approach should include consulting with industry experts on specific criteria for upcoming tenders and gaining a full understanding of the product or service in question. Suppliers must ensure that they take the time to engage in these discussions. ?? Including key stakeholders from the buying organization in these discussions is critical to ensure accurate articulation of the criteria. This will prevent potential misalignment with actual needs. ?? Research and dialogue with suppliers not only saves valuable time, but also contributes to cost efficiency. PS. Looking for conference advice from procurement pros! ?? I love seeing people face to face. That's one of the things I've realized this year after flying back and forth between my apartment in Latvia and my team in Warsaw – but also after attending a few procurement conferences for the first time ?? DPW in Amsterdam stood out the most to me so far, given the amazing, vibrant, and curious procurement crowd they gathered. Just meeting Andra Fola, Tom Mills, Rich Sains, and Daniel Barnes made it totally worth it! ?? And now that I'm planning my schedule for next year, I really need your advice: What are your favorite, must-have, can't-miss procurement conferences both in Europe and in the US?
