The Power of Coming Together Last week, I had the privilege of being in Amsterdam, surrounded by remarkable leaders from across the teams. Every conversation was an opportunity to learn, share stories, and grow. At Highberg, we’ve been steadily building capabilities over the years, and this gathering reminded me why we are stronger together. The highlight of my week? Attending the ???????????????? ????????????????, where over 400 professionals gathered from all corners of the Europe. As a management team, we reflected on market trends and strategized for the future. But the best part wasn’t just the work—it was the human connection. ?? ?????? ???????????? ???????????????? ??????????????: In today’s digital age, real connections are more valuable than ever. Eye contact, shared laughter, spontaneous conversations—these moments create bonds that emails and online calls simply can’t. They remind us to pause, reflect, and celebrate our collective journey. Amidst the intense R&D for our Parad'Ice Ice cream, I learned the importance of establishing core values early. Coached by the unequalled Alice Lopin, I initially struggled to prioritize values amid pressing demands. However, recognizing their importance for scalability, I listened to Alice and embraced collaboration and empowerment as two initial key values. ?? A way down the line, our successful R&D journey led to unique intellectual property, then we solidified branding. As our team expanded remotely, however, we faced challenges in clarity of responsibilities. Returning to our values, our digital leaders proactively addressed this, delineating clear ownership zones. This empowered the digital team and relieved the marketing group, fostering positive energy and clarity throughout the company. The importance of aligning actions with values early was a big learning for me. The result was a more collaborative culture a bit like a silent operating system. Without this early groundwork, our journey might not have been as positive. Grateful to Alice Lopin for insisting on the importance of values early on; I wanted to pay it forward and share, in case it can serve as a check and balance to the thought "but I don't have time for this now!!" Christie Martinez, CFO of Spiroflow, recently shared her insights into the leadership challenges she faced amidst the upheavals of COVID-19. While her industry experienced a robust upswing, the emergence of COVID-19 ushered in unprecedented hurdles, particularly in managing human capital. The transition to remote work placed a significant strain on interdepartmental communication, notably between engineering and assembly teams, adding to the already exacerbating challenges in workflow coordination. Things indeed got much worse before they got better, yet, eventually, Martinez and her management team rallied by adopting a 'back-to-basics' approach with daily rituals of celebration, including, among other things: Shared breakfasts, Holiday celebrations, Engaging in trivia sessions, and more! Last week, our global L&TD team gathered in London for an intensive and inspiring week focused on strategy, priorities, team alignment, and the future of work. It was a week packed with creativity, innovation, and meaningful interactions. Thank you to our global leader, Melanie Neilson for putting together an inspiring and collaborative week. Sally-Ann Burriss, Carrie English, Kristina Quintana, Sarah Kenway, Andie Bennett, Grace Nimmo, Lydia MacDonald, Lauren Dawson thank you for bringing your unique perspectives, for the laughter during team-building activities, and for the deep, challenging conversations that pushed us all to think differently and more critically. The diverse thoughts and innovative ideas shared throughout the week have not only aligned our present goals but have also paved the way for a promising future. Our discussions on the future of work were particularly exciting, revealing exciting prospects and pathways for our Firm’s growth. Coming together like this also reminded me of our collective strength and shared vision.
