Before approaching an investor, ask yourself the following questions; 1. How viable is your business idea/ innovation? 2. Is your innovation sustainable ? 3. How unique is your innovation? Are you duplicating another person's ideas or targeting the same customers? 4. How applicable is it to the customers in terms of affordability and ease of using it? 4. The Drop 2024, what a conference ???? I met so many great people, had lots of thoughtful conversations and experienced a community of founders and VC’s alike who are on the same mission to a cleaner planet through innovation and technology. ?? It was great to represent GRYD and share our recent successes and forward challenges. One of the things that stood out is the issue of unlocking capital for deployment of technologies solving climate challenges at scale. ?? Funding the development of cutting edge technologies is one thing but if we can’t apply them at scale then what is it for? Traditional financing methods are tricky for innovative new solutions because of ‘first project’ risk. The climate capital ripple brought to light many alternative financing options making it easier for companies like ours to scale quicker and in turn make significant impact. Thanks to the organisers, Pale blue dot and Domino Studio and thanks to Hampus Jakobsson for the recommendation to attend. Looking forward to next years Drop ??

I'm pinching myself that, one week from today, I get to collaborate with Rebecca Magee of Sister Seasons to bring the first-ever Regenerative Futures Summit to life. A couple months ago, reeling from the results of the US election, Rebecca and I asked a question... What would it look like to bring together some of our favorite values-aligned leaders to co-create a vision of the future that we're actually excited about? We knew we were going to need something to look forward to in January. And while it can be so powerful to reflect on questions like this alone, we both also know it can be *even more potent* to anchor our individual intentions in co-created collective desires for the future. Had a fun time attending last night's event by Hard Stuff exploring climate hardware! ?? Here are my fave 3 reflections from my chats and reading about this. ? 1?? Hardware solutions play a key role in energy, new materials, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. (https://lnkd.in/eEgPXUFc shoutout to Emma Scarf on this article!) 2?? VCs traditionally favour software solutions because of higher capital costs and development times. For a hardware startup to succeed in raising VC funding, it's important to understand whether it's the right fit - if they don't invest in hardware, the process will be long and painful. There are v promising shifts in this field in the UK - Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) is a government-backed agency, which funds high-risk scientific innovation, and VCs like Lowercarbon Capital, Voyager Ventures and Climate Capital (and many more!) are focusing on deep-tech investments in the UK and EU. Ultimately, our world is full of physical challenges that need physical solutions, so it's great to see movement in the right direction on this. ??

Climate tech is like the sun, it’s rising and it’s hot… Jokes aside, climate tech is a booming industry and for good reasons. We’re seeing dramatic climate change across the world that could have generational consequences, the United States just invested $1 trillion with the Infrastructure Investment and JOBS Act, and economically, there’s a lot of opportunity to disrupt some major industries. Jacqueline (Jackie) Firsty is someone that is at the forefront of it all and has crafted her entire career around climate tech. She’s currently the Director of the Greentown Labs Investor Program where she helps match climate tech ventures with investors and other funding opportunities. From financial institutions in Midtown to on-the-ground community organizers in Queens, our founders Abby L. Watson and Raquel Pichardo heard from speakers taking action to solve the climate crisis. We were honored to participate in Transition IQ’s event: How Investors Are Addressing the Climate Emergency. Abby moderated the Energy Transition Venture Investor Lighting Round, Featuring speakers from?S2G Ventures,?Blackhorn Ventures?and the Amazon Climate Pledge Fund about where they see opportunities for impact and returns in?#climatetech?investing over the next five years. In Queens, we attended the second annual Climate Justice Forum – Building the?#GreenEnergy?Future with Frontline Communities event hosted by Rise Light & Power, WE ACT for Environmental Justice, the NAACP New York City Housing Authority Branch and City & State. Here we were challenged to expand our definition of a successful #energytransition – moving beyond #GHGreduction stats, and considering real-world impacts like improvement in children’s health, safer homes and greener communities.?
