So many people have been supportive of Dan & me as we've put on our boutique hotel owner hats for the New Glarus Hotel! ???? I'm planning to share a little more on LinkedIn about our journey, starting with all the gems ?? we're finding as we continue the cleanup of the hotel before we get into full restoration mode. ?? As you can imagine, cleaning out a 175-year-old hotel means that we're always finding incredible (& hilarious!) pieces of history, like this sign: "Notice: All employees are requested to take a bath ?? before reporting for work. If I'm going to have to kiss ?? your rear to get you to do anything, I want it to be clean. Your Supervisor." ?????? Don't worry—I've already told The Perk team that this is going to be a new company policy. ?? ?? Celebrating Three Years of Transformation at The Galmont Hotel & Spa! ?? I’m thrilled to share that we are nearing the completion of a full refurbishment of 215 luxury hotel rooms! While the finished product speaks volumes about quality and comfort, what often goes unseen are the incredible efforts of my dedicated team. Over the past three years, we’ve not only revamped our guest rooms but also overhauled our energy systems to align with our commitment to sustainability. Managing facilities for a property of this size requires meticulous planning, coordination, and the support of both internal teams and external contractors. It’s a juggling act of orders, deliveries, and shifting timelines—all while ensuring the hotel remains open for guests. We successfully managed the project budget while navigating last-minute changes due to business needs and late deliveries. Despite these challenges, we turned the project around on time, showcasing our resilience and commitment to excellence. Throughout this process, I’m proud to say we maintained a 100% Health and Safety audit score across the property, even while overseeing external contractors who may not always share the same level of investment in our health and safety procedures. As Facilities Manager, I don’t shy away from these challenges; I embrace them to ensure we deliver the best possible experience for our guests. And we show no signs of slowing down! January won’t be a quiet month for us, as we’ll be diving straight into another refurbishment of 60 bedrooms with tight deadlines—but we are up for the challenge! MedExpress was the first #urgentcare to scale to 250 centers. Was their "secret sauce" really their granite countertops and Greenbriar quality service? Or was it their early development in #rural West Virginia counties? Likewise, in the '80s and '90s Courtyard by Marriott revolutionized the hotel industry. Competitors followed with a half-dozen "garden hotel" concepts of their own. Clearly success in the #hotel business entailed having a courtyard, right? What followed was unmatched Marriott success and a generation of inefficiently designed knock-off hotels. The "secret sauce" for Marriott International wasn't the garden but rather, bringing a product that didn't exist to suburban and secondary markets in desperate need of new hotel choices. It wasn't until years later the Courtyard brand expanded to metro locations, at which time the garden was abandoned. Success doesn't come from #differentiation alone but rather, differentiation on what matters to consumers.
