Our October edition of The Pulse highlights two lakes in Central Florida that have historically experienced harmful algal blooms. We successfully partnered with Polk County Natural Resources to address the issue with Ultrasound! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eGWsTs7w

I've participated in the webinar on 'Coastal Dissolved Oxygen Dynamics and A Brief Introduction to the Hypoxia Task Force' organized by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Hypoxia means low levels of oxygen in aquatic ecosystems. This research webinar allowed me to aware of the CGEM (Coastal Generalized Ecosystem Model) which can be used to model physical and biogeochemical processes of dissolved oxygen, organic matter, nutrients (such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus), phytoplankton and zooplankton in coastal and freshwater ecosystems. ???? #USEPA #Hypoxia

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEMPERATURE & OXYGEN - the implications on fish species. ................................................................. An increase in temperature results in less dissolution of oxygen in the water and hence, oxygen demand required by the bacteria for the degradation of wastes also increases. Tissue anoxia can occur at higher lethal temperatures in aquatic animals. Temperature also affects key physicochemical conditions such as oxygen concentrations as well as energetic processes associated with primary production and litter decomposition. #temperature #oxygen #biodiversity #fishspecies #aquaticscience

How does one measurement once a day compare to continuous monitoring? Learn how both can be used to not only maintain compliance but optimize your process based on diurnal patterns and indirect discarding.
Learn how continuous nutrient monitoring can help protect ecosystems, maintain compliance, avoid violations and fines, and control erosion. Explore Nutrient Monitoring with Hach: https://ow.ly/JlEo50Qxn8r #NutrientMonitoring #Phosphates #Nitrogen #WaterQuality

???? Algae are naturally occurring microscopic organisms that can be found in coastal and fresh waters. They can quickly grow out of control, or "bloom." Most algae are not harmful, but some of these blooms produce toxins (poisons) that make people and animals sick.?Harmful algal blooms can look like mats, foam, scum, or paint on the surface of the water. They can also grow underneath the water making them hard to see.?Info https://lnkd.in/gyMRWXtA #FairfaxCountyGovernment #EngageGrowInspire #ComeMakeADifference Merit positions https://bit.ly/30YQReB Check out our benefits https://bit.ly/47NyNr3?

A harmful algal bloom occurs when toxin-producing algae grow excessively in a body of water. Algae are microscopic organisms that live in aquatic environments and use photosynthesis to produce energy from sunlight, just like plants. Exposures to these blooms can be harmful to health. Of the thousands of algal species known to man, only a few seem to capture people’s attention and make it into mainstream media. Prymnesium parvum, a toxic golden algae, has caused significant fish kills and ecological damage worldwide. These blooms thrive in varied environments, making management challenging. Learn from the experts at Natural Lake Biosciences on how to find a solution to help prevent this algae from wreaking havoc on your lakes! https://buff.ly/4fe6Nkn

What are the states when dissolve oxygen (DO) become lower or higher in level? Let's see________________ Normally, ideal DO Level for Tropical freshwater fish- 5 mg per liter (80% saturation). 1.Anoxic: Anoxic conditions have a low but not completely absent concentration of dissolved oxygen (between 1 and 30% DO saturation). 2.Hypoxic: Hypoxic conditions specifically refer to dissolved oxygen saturation below 30%, which is detrimental to many aquatic organisms, including fish. 3.Hyperoxia: Hyperoxia is the state of water when it holds a very high amount of oxygen. At this state, water is described as having a dissolved oxygen saturation of greater than 100%. This percent can be 140-300%.?
