Thank you everyone for your interest in the 2025 Salmon Recovery Conference. After considering the overall state budget shortfall and our need to generate savings, we have decided to cancel the conference. We are committed to hosting the conference in the future and strongly believe it is a valuable tool for helping all of us improve our work, make connections, and take salmon recovery to the next level. After the 2025 legislative session, we will evaluate when we can convene the conference again. Thank you again for all your support, passion, and interest in salmon recovery. We will keep you informed of any decisions. If you have questions, please email?Jeannie Abbott at [email protected] #SRC2025 #salmonrecoveryconference

Finishing out 2024 on a bright note, Mark C Anderson provides an optimistic update on the future of salmon in California. After less than a year, salmon are seen in creeks farther upstream than they’ve been in over 100 years! Check out the article to learn more about this silver lining amidst a bleak salmon fishery moment for our local fishery, which could be helped by a successful recovery of Klamath salmon. https://lnkd.in/gf9QjVCz

The majority of infrastructure investment in utilities is, understandably, physical in nature. However, as our facilities continue to leverage more technology, investments need to be made in that area, as well- not only digitizing operations for the good of our operators and operations, but to also digitally secure this critical infrastructure. #ruralwater#watersecurity
In the City of Sullivan, Ill., portions of the treatment plant were over 40 years old and in dire need of repair and the chlorination system had no backup. Illinois Rural Water Association Circuit Riders worked with the community’s administration and operational staff to obtain funding through USDA RD. Did you know that wild Alaskan salmon supplies are dwindling? And they are unlikely to recover for several years. Now is the time to start thinking about offering blends of wild Alaskan salmon oil with things like pollock, cod or other non-Alaskan salmon oil.?

The Veterans of presentation bingo at water conferences know that they are usually on safe ground with "not on track", "blended finance", "marginalised groups" etc. All important, but used so indiscriminately that they usually fail to stimulate an audience response. I find it irritating that "collective action" seems to have joined this list. It's irritating because collective action can and does work. It was my privilege yesterday to moderate a session featuring the Secretary Generals of both the Cambodia National Mekong Committee and the Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Gambie (OMVG). Both described intricate and highly successful models of collective action amongst their respective basin stakeholders. Key to this success, they both said, was that every stakeholder had more to lose by not acting collectively. This is the challenge. Many stakeholders in the water finance space fly the flag for collective action - but privately believe they have more to gain by acting individually. So in practice, not much happens beyond the PowerPoint. But the reality is that without collective action, it's not possible to mobilise the investment needed for basin security. Hence "not on track". This afternoon (1pm, Pecatu 5, BNDCC2) Satoshi Ishii and I will be running a High Level Panel on Reimaging Collective Action. Speakers include Meike van Ginneken, Water Envoy to the Netherlands, Adrian Sym, CEO of the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS), Rachael McDonnell, DDG of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Neeta Pokhrel, Director at ADB and Franz Rojas, Director at CAF. We're going to take this on. Do join us, but a warning that bingo players may be disappointed.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has crafted amendments to the Fishing Industry Collective Bargaining Act. If the FFAW-Unifor and Association of Seafood Producers agree with amendments, #crab harvesters would have the option to strike, and processors would have the option for lockout, if they can't settle prices through negotiation and conciliation. More details in my story for Undercurrent News #seafood #policy #government #snowcrab #fishing https://lnkd.in/eGCqcHce
