Michael is an honor student and captain of the school’s soccer team, constantly pushing himself to improve both on the field and in the classroom. But the hardest thing of all? Feeling hunger. ?????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????? For many of us, food is something we don’t have to think twice about, it’s always there when we need it. But for many families, the reality is different. Food insecurity isn’t just about hunger; it’s about the weight of tough choices—between paying for rent or groceries, keeping the heat on or putting food on the table. I know firsthand how difficult those choices can be, and I also know the power of a simple meal when times are tough. February is often one of the hardest months for food-insecure families. After the holiday giving season fades, food banks struggle to meet continuing demand. A single can of food, a small financial contribution, or even just spreading the word can help ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Community support shouldn’t end with the holidays – it continues where it’s needed most.?

I'm not sure there's enough focus on agriculture (or planning, for that matter) in public discourse about biodiversity and climate, given that the State of Nature reports (etc.) highlight it as critically important - and again here, in relation to neonicotinoid insecticides. Personally, I feel quite poorly educated about solutions in agriculture, and the barriers from the perspectives of farmers. It feels a very disempowering subject for those of us not working in farming - a quick look at recommended actions from relevant charities shows a focus on donating, campaigning and gardening (which is not farming), with limited explanation of why the problem exists. In my experience in other areas, it's never as simple as "bad people don't care" (although I'm not denying self-interest can be in the mix). I'm not sure how effective public campaigns can be without a more nuanced understanding of why farmers are not shifting to alternative practices, and the support they need to do so - especially as we frequently hear how farmers are struggling. Maybe I should try harder with my downtime reading! But very sad to see that my observations earlier this year, about the lack of bees and butterflies in the South West this summer, are backed up by wider data.

The Golden Egg. Once upon a time, a farmer had a goose that laid a golden egg every day. The farmer used to sell that egg and earn enough money to meet their family's day-to-day needs. One day, the farmer thought that if he could get more such golden eggs and make a lot of money and become a wealthy person. Goodr and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens have partnered to open a free grocery store in Fulton County to address food insecurity among elderly residents and low-income communities in a food desert. Located at the William Walker Recreation Center, the store provides essential groceries to families and seniors struggling with rising food costs.
