1. There are 345MM citizens in the US 2. There are 1.3MM active duty military personnel. 3. That means .4% of the population serves in the military. 4. 9 out of 10 people serving in the military are in support roles meaning only 10% of the 1.3MM see combat. 5. That means .04% of the population engage with the enemy and risk their lives so the rest of us don't have to. 6. There are 18MM veterans in the US or 6% of the population. 7. That's why we have Veterans Day. To recognize the very few who do all of the heavy lifting so the rest of us don't have to.

As a retired Marine, I deeply appreciate your recognition of the sacrifices made by our military personnel. The statistics you shared highlight the immense dedication and bravery of a small fraction of our population who willingly step up to protect our nation. Veterans Day is indeed a crucial reminder of the service and sacrifices of these brave individuals. It is a day to honor those who have not only served in combat but also those in support roles who ensure the success and safety of every mission. Thank you for acknowledging the significance of Veterans Day and for understanding the profound impact of our veterans on our freedom and security. Semper Fi. Shawn Gray Master Sergeant USMC Retired

Having served 50 years ago as 10% of the .4% was an honor for me. I always felt I got more out of my service than I put in. The subsequent generations of fighters I think feel the same. Support our veterans no matter their age, branch, rank or job (MOS). We just should not celebrate them for a single day of the year but anyway that is possible.

Norman Rockwell captured the American values and way of life like no other modern artist. This is a great example of his amazing and poignant work. One can actually feel the emotion and gratitude of the moment when the returning hero comes home from his military service to save his family and friends, US allies and democracy from the tyranny of a mad, egotistical and autocratic dictator during World War II.

Powerful picture. I remember my father coming home from WWII after being in England for 2 years
