Urban planning policies based on measurement, mathematical correlation, evaluation, and a growing foundation of conclusions based on a new language of objective comparison is the only way I have been able to envision meeting emotional, subjective, and self-interested opinion with the reason, logic, and consistent mathematical evaluation associated with more rigorous, scientific language, discussion, and conclusion. Substituting emotion for reason has never led us toward the knowledge required to improve.

"The art of giving poor answers to practical questions which other methods answer still worse." Elena S Wentzel quoting Thomas Saaty in her book "Operations Research". This is the best answer to all those who assert that mathematical and quantitative models of urban and regional planning don't work. Well, get used to it cos that's all that can possibly work ...and all the other vague, abstract, post-modernist and qualitative methods will work much worse...if at all. Reality proves that every day.? #urbanmodels?#mathematics?#planning?#cities

. However, the studies that should be done for a project 1-Geological and location studies based on the type of use that is going to be used in this project. 2-Studies (analysis of the project site and climate that determine the new and light materials used in the project) } 3- Environmental psychology studies {investigating the personality of the people who are going to work or live in this project}, 4- Studies on the per capita supply of project infrastructure and facilities 5- Studies on the compatibility of the number of people who are located in this site according to the urban planning rules Live or work 6- Traffic studies including the positive and negative effects of the clients of this project during peak traffic hours on the traffic networks of cities. 7- Studies on the suitability of the scale of the plan in the dimensions of urban development. 8- Following an architectural style considering the culture and civilization of nations (modern or post-modern style) and 9- Observing the safety of residents in unexpected events such as earthquakes, wars, fires and many other factors.

I am pleased to announce that our paper” A spatial evaluation of the smart growth indicators: case study of Tehran (2023)” has been published in the Journal of Urbanism. In this manuscript, we have demonstrated Tehran neighborhoods’ status quo of smart growth indicators (with the help of GIS and SPSS) under four indices of residential density, mixed-use, mixed housing, and transportation. Furthermore, we have combined smart growth spatial analysis with the temporal analysis of Tehran's physical growth through PCA to indicate which indices of smart growth need to be improved in newer neighborhoods. I hope you enjoy reading it! https://lnkd.in/djd-5xfE #smartgrowth #sprawl #urbanism #urbanplanning #spatialanalysis #pca #Tehran

?????? "Before starting urban transformation projects, modeling is crucial. Various models such as value-based, public-based, and agreement-based can be considered by coordinating stakeholders to determine the preferred method. This choice can significantly impact the success of the project. Scientific research supports the effectiveness of this approach. #UrbanTransformation #Modeling #Stakeholders"

Colleagues from the IOER and I recently published an article in which we analyze the steering effect of regional planning to reduce residential land take. Using a multi-level regression approach, we investigate the steering effectiveness, taking into account different interest groups and contextual factors for the period from 2009 to 2019. Results show a dampening effect of regional planning on residential land take at the local level. However, the effect becomes non-significant when considering local and regional covariates, revealing that regional planning alone may not be sufficient to reduce residential land take effectively. Findings underscore the complexity of regional planning and the importance of understanding its impacts on the local and regional level.

Complex is the key word.?
Urban planning is a complex discipline that aims to shape urban environments as per the needs of growing populations. So, parametric design offers a flexible approach that utilizes computational algorithms for the analysis, generation, and optimization of information within any given context. Here is a review of the applications of parametric design in urban planning: https://lnkd.in/djCCpKUm

Dear All, we are happy to share the project report from the course 'Urban Contingency Practice and Planning' 2023! As a result of increasingly compounded crises due to #climatechange, financial crises, pandemics, armed conflict, and?forced displacement, urban planners need to be trained to bridge long-term #spatialplanning with short-term humanitarian response. This course uses complex concepts such as #uncertainty, #resilience, #adaptation, and #contingency to broaden students' understanding of how to deal with #environmental, #sociospatial and #humanitarian crises. Master Students from various disciplines (Urban planning, sustainable architecture, geography and civil engineering) formulated multi-scalar contingency plans for hypothetical unexpected floods in #Trondheim due to sea level rise or heavy rainfall. Many thanks to our course coordinator Mrudhula Koshy, teaching Team NTNU Faculty of Architecture and Design Mrudhula Koshy, Wang Yu, Gilbert Siame, and Vija Viese and guest lecturers Angelo Jonas Imperiale, Rodrigo (Rod) Mena, Corina Angheloiu for their pertinent insights on alternative planning approaches to deal with uncertainty. The course will run in its current format for the sixth year this spring! https://lnkd.in/eYVsjJYR
