HTp provided a Transport Statement last year in support of an outline application (all matters reserved except for access) to North Somerset Council for the provision of nine residential dwellings at Lostwood in Langford. ? Our report included a forecast of the number of multi-modal trips generated by the application proposals using trip rates provided by the national TRICS database.?The scope of our work included an assessment of the accessibility of the site by non-car modes and confirmed the proposed strategy for pedestrian and cycle movements to and from the application site ??♀??? ?? ? Accident investigation informed our design of the proposed new access from the A38 at a location where the speed limit is 40mph, which was subject to an independent Stage 2 Road Safety Audit. ? The scope of our works included negotiations with the highway officer post submission of the Transport Statement to demonstrate that the proposed access to the application site was both safe and appropriate for all users. ? North Somerset Council approved the outline application on 8th November 2024 much to the delight of our project team ?

This week whilst travelling to a client site, I passed Grenfell Tower for the first time, whilst on the train. Having read and heard so much about it, seeing it in person had a completely different impact on me. It spurred me on to finish reading the phase 1 report, and motivated me to read the phase 2 report which is due out today. Without doubt, regardless of the changes in law, these reports contain content that we can all learn from, and we absolutely must learn from them. When reading the phase 1 report, one element that resonated with me the most is the importance of emergency planning and response which is applicable to us all in this industry and an area we don’t pay enough attention too in my opinion. The other, is the importance of technical detail and competence whether it be during construction or maintenance.
