Hurricane season has just started, so stay safe and savvy with a simple trick to check if your food is safe to eat after a power outage. Here's how it works: Place a cup of water in your freezer. Once it's frozen solid, put a quarter on top of it and leave it in your freezer. When you get home, if the quarter is where you left it, your food is safe to eat. If the quarter has fallen, it's a signal that the frozen water has thawed and it's best to toss everything. Spoiled food poses a real health risk. It’s been a tough week in Galveston County, Harris County and many of the surrounding areas as a result of the direct hit these areas took from Hurricane Beryl. The Mackey Team has been busy helping customers in every way possible with HVAC and electrical issues, providing information for generator installations (to prepare for upcoming storms), and assisting with landscaping and debris cleanup. Sharing a few things we have been reminded of in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl: 1. You can never be too prepared for a major storm that “might” be in your area. Buy the water and groceries. Have the repair supplies on hand (tarps, rope etc.). Fill up the car. Double-check the emergency supply box. 2. Helpful neighbors are the best neighbors. Offer to help clean out the flooded house. Share the extra extension cord. Grab a few more rolls of paper towels at the store. Let people know they are not alone. 3.Trees are beautiful, but dangerous in big storms. Keep up with annual trimmings. Address visible issues. Don’t let the tree or branch that should have been taken care of be the cause of extreme damage. 4. There will be inconveniences for everyone. You are not the only one that has to wait in the long line, drive through unorganized intersections, or find ways to deal without power. Things will get back to normal, it just takes time (and patience).?
