Don’t get jealous at other people’s strengths, partner with them! I asked a newer agent to join me for a benefits fair because I tend to be on the quieter side and I knew she wouldn’t be afraid to talk with ANYONE. What was the outcome? ??It was the most successful event I’ve had! As a commission-only agent, it’s easy to get caught up in ourselves and constantly look within. A reminder that there’s strength in partnership ?? Her strengths compliment where I need improvement and I’m using that as a learning tool. Hillcrest supports Career Ready launch event in Dundee Last week staff from across Hillcrest proudly attended the Career Ready launch event at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee. The event was an opportunity for our mentors to meet their young mentees and fellow mentors, get to know them and discuss their hopes and aspirations for the next two years. The Career Ready programme connects young people with employers and mentors to develop workplace skills, confidence and help them prepare for their future careers. Graeme Dey MSP, Minister for Further and Higher Education opened the event with reflections on his early career and words of encouragement. Attendees also heard from Career Ready alumni Aizah from Harris Academy and Andrew McFarlane from Aviva, who shared how the programme transformed their personal and professional journeys. Hillcrest mentors Fiona Morrison, Robyn Rae and Tracey McKay met their mentees, collaborated on activities and shared their enthusiasm for supporting young people. In the context of an evolving job market, advancing technology, and the growing need for relevant skills, Scottish Careers Week highlights collaborations that empower people of all ages to make informed education and career choices for a better future. Careers support isn’t just for young people. People are working longer and different life events, such as maternity, relocation, health challenges, family issues or bereavement can influence our careers. Sometimes we need to change careers in order to support our (work)life blend, our wellbeing or to work in alignment with our values. 50% of Making Work Work participants are over 45. The careers advice they received at school or university is often no longer relevant. Making Work Work provides time, space, peer support, information and networks to help participants launch new careers, continue previous ones, pivot or change direction in a way which suits them as an individual.
