This webinar is free and offers CME and CEU credits! Stigma can prevent people from seeking help, getting diagnosed, or receiving treatment.?It can also lead to substandard care, denial of care, or passing care off to less experienced staff,?contributing to health disparities by influencing health outcomes. Research shows that stigma is one of the primary barriers to accessing recovery services for people who use substances. There's still time to join CareOregon's MEDS Ed program as we present psychiatric nurse practitioner Lydia Bartholow, DNP, PMHNP, CARN-AP, reviewing the types of stigma that patients are likely to experience, how the media informs stigma, and how race, gender, sexuality and class modify the impact of stigma. Special emphasis on how stigma is a barrier to evidence-based medical care for people with substance use disorders, as well as actionable steps we can all take to decrease stigma and improve health outcomes for vulnerable Oregonians. https://lnkd.in/gEGxdE8z

One of our popular calculators is the BIMS, based on the Brief Interview for Mental Status that evaluates #cognitiveimpairment and can help with #dementia diagnosis. BIMS is a structured evaluation aimed at evaluating aspects of cognition in elderly patients. The three parts of the assessment look at: ■ Patient attention; ■ Level of orientation; ■ Ability to recall information. The BIMS is correlated with results from other scales such as the MMSE (Mini-Mental State Exam). If the elderly patient also displays behavioural symptoms linked to depression, they may be referred to take the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dyq9r2VF
