Today is a day of mourning. My 25 year old Texas instruments TI-89 died for the last time. All attempts at resuscitation failed. I'm not sure what I'm more upset about. Loosing the calculator or loosing all the programs I've written for it over the years... But seriously. Right when I needed it for a technical assessment too. This has to stop. ???? Just because engineers are capable of handling almost anything doesn’t mean they should be expected to take on any job role. Hire people for their skills and capabilities, not to overwork or exploit them. Unfortunately, this happens partly because there aren’t enough jobs in their core field, and partly because some people take advantage of their dedication and think it’s okay. <rant> People posting job "opportunities" on LinkedIn and other job boards for founding engineers and CTOs that are equity only need to stop. Just stop. Let me get this straight: you've got an idea, but no shippable product, no funding, no customers. Yet you're expecting the founding engineer to do all of the work to create the entire company. And you're gonna give them a minority fraction of the equity, and no salary? C'mon man. C'mon. This isn't a job you're posting. it's a con-job. </rant>
