It was a pleasure to talk today to the ProVisors Chicago Lawyers' Affinity Group about short-message eDiscovery and mobile device preservation. There were great questions about the defensibility of DIY collection tools, the value of protective orders, and the shifting appearance of emojis across platforms and time periods! Below is my favorite image from the presentation, borrowed from the #UFEDISCO24 presentation by Matt Mahon, CEDS, IGP. For more fun emoji discussion, check out: https://lnkd.in/dmDVspzz

SV: DIference between @(clocking_block_event) and @(posedge clk). See Dave's responses and examples at the link below. Bottom line: There is some difference in that the?@cb?event does not get scheduled until the observed region. Depending the code written, you may or may not see a difference. Dave's guideline is once you start using clocking block events, do not mix them with any other kinds of events. Srinivasan Venkataramanan are you checking for this in AsFigo? https://lnkd.in/gFZD6xyG

CrowdStrike users found that if you don't test your code in production, your customers will. This is the difference between testing and quality engineering/SRE. Crowdstrike ran automated tests of their change before release, and then, without monitoring went straight to a 100% global rollout. With QE/SRE, you never stop looking to see if there's a problem, when I did the Google Drive (Android) rollouts, we released to test devices, engineer's devices, dogfood, 1% canary, 5%, etc..?all while closely monitored if any problems were detected, both through from automated means, changes to usage patterns, and user feedback. Anything less than that would've been a disservice to our users. And we didn't do more only because we hadn't yet built better tooling to make that practical. https://lnkd.in/gSmGg3Cp
The CrowdStrike PIR is out. Key take away = content updates, used by the kernel, were (and still are) published globally simultaneously. https://lnkd.in/ds6bZXAB

The ongoing development of a replay/simulator system for MetaTrader 5 has revealed certain challenges as complexity increases. Ensuring stability and security within a modular model is crucial. The aim is to prevent unintentional misuse by inexperienced users, especially when the system is active. Recently, an issue with an unstable control indicator was identified, which did not jeopardize the platform but could lead to unexpected failures. The problem stemmed from how chart IDs were handled when the service utilized templates. Attention was shifted from using templates to allow better customization through user-created templates. A deeper dive into the ChartID functionality revealed discrepancies in ID usage when charts opened. Solutions involved modifying the C_Terminal class and passing chart IDs directly to indicators, thus ensuring accurate ... #MQL5 #MT5 #Indicator #Simulator https://lnkd.in/dYrhj2DF

Good technical breakdown of the meltdown resulting from the latest Crowdstrike update (link in comments). Tl;dr #kerneldrivers open up all kinds of risks – including system degradation or even outages. When we built Senser, we were aware of these risks – from our own experience putting out fires as a result of errors in driver code. That's why we used #eBPF tech for lightweight, non-intrusive data collection. eBPF programs are executed in an isolated environment (so they can’t access or modify sensitive kernel data structures) and go through a verification process before they are loaded into the kernel. Of course comprehensive data collection is just the first step in smart observability. But today's meltdown shows the devastating cost of outages and the risks of kernel drivers – a good reminder of the benefits of safe, secure, and lightweight system monitoring.
